Maemo Mapper does turn-by-turn directions on-screen and audibly via Flite with the GPS receiver enabled.

I use WayFinder (paid for) and Mapper.

Mapper is impressive, but it is harder to use than WayFinder for me. Especially ina moving car. I intend to use it for when we go Hiking next. Should be great with Sat View maps.

But to make mapper a true alternative (for me) when on the road (assuming always on internet over the phone), it would need to be much more finger friendly for a start.

In fact, something like the WayFinder big buttons to get to the main options would be perfect...

I'm a real pirate I know how to navigate using landmarks and such. My n810 gps is strictly for geodata.

I find the Wayfinder routing pretty good and at the price for 3 years worldwide mapping it's a lot cheaper than Tom Tom (which I had before) and its updates for 3 years.

The lock on time with the N810 is pretty poor but I have a BT sirf 3 chipped GPS receiver (very cheap on eBay) which works great with it when I want a faster lock.

It would certainly be better if they'd put a more effective GPS chip in it but interestingly the hold on the signals once locked on seems better than the sirf 3. With that, I often get the message that GPS signal is lost whereas the Texas chip in the 810 rarely loses once on.

Subjective stuff, this. I've been meaning to do some tests...but I rarely travel the same route twice. And then the weather conditions are different....

So...not the best but a deal breaker, I don't think so.

Price is ok, but it is not worldwide from what I can make out.

Is there a web address that explains how is that done ? Of course, it depends on having good underlying maps and information. But, nevertheless I'd love to try that.

Do I have to repeat this once every 7 days or doing it once will override the license check ?
The network couldne be restarted after i change the mac so i used a bluetooth phone to extend the license.
a. delete the .navicore directory
b. change mac
c. start wayfinder and apply for new license. Connect using a bluetooth phone

But when i restarted wayfinder detected that there is a change of mac (resetted to old) so it asked me again to apply for license ? Is there a work around for this.

If I buy a license, you change your mac into mine and insert my serial, would it work ?

I would think so...

The Mac address on the NIT cannot be currently changed permanently. Once you reboot the unit it reverts back to the stock address.
