Sadly, not everyone reads, or understands, such warnings. We've been down that path with the MicroB beta, the OS2008 beta, and the Modest beta. And that was in the days when this site was entirely populated by super Linux hackers and developers. Or so I'm told.

Even now, simultaneous with the cries of "stop the overblown, boogieman warnings about Extras-devel" we also get posts condemning those "horrible developers" for putting untested code into that repo. Head or gut? Either way, you're getting hit.

I'd like to see more open beta testing of Maemo software too, but I can understand how the very thought might give Nokia's lawyers the willies. I'll just keep hoping they can slowly adjust their internal processes to support smaller, more modular updates.

There's a certification process that each public release must go through before release both for Nokia requires and third-party components (Flash). This process is involved and takes a number of weeks to complete, cannot be bypassed and must be restarted if bugs are found.

So, no, it's rarely as simple as Nokia just deciding not to release an update.

The guys who shout out "horrible developers" should be ignored. By providing such warnings, Nokia is not liable legally in anyway and that guy who said that will be treated like an idiot by multiple guys from here. Even with all those idots, having extras-devel is a gondsend. If it wasn't available, we would not have at least around half the apps which are currently available to use. (well, either that or we'll have more buggy apps in extras-testing or extras just to push it up)

But if it's all closed off like it is right now for the firmware itself, it creates a even bigger number of users being frustrated. (points to Chuck Norris thread) Some bugs were fixed months and months ago. But we can't have it as Nokia want to package up with 300 other bug fixes and test it all out before releasing it MUCH later.

Bigger OS'es with much bigger user base such as even "Windows" does not have such closed way of fixing issues. (hotfix, beta, rc then final)

Again with stinging comments about things you don't know about, mate...? Just saying.

Ps: look up qt4.6 on pr1.2

Without PR1.2, it seems we will never get any decent commercial apps in OVI store nor any new Qt4.6 based apps. So it's a big deal. Also, 300+ bug fixes especially when some of them are quite major is a big deal. Most of us already know what PR1.2 is. So don't say it as if you are one of rare few who does.
