Rover is nice too, but it is already used in cars... confusing
Flux is the name of my band. That would be weird, playing Flux on the Flux.

While I think Nexus sounds good (and has the N of N series and Nokia), maybe something related to the open, free nature of the device could be used.

Many people already mispell Fremantle as Freemantle... Hmmm...

The One Free Phone? (Half-Life FTW)

Freepad?

Not needed, I got it when I read your first post. I even entered in that thread creating a whole off-topic international crisis!!

Cell phone robbery has been a lot in the news here in São Paulo lately. This article here states 1700 robberies in the citie's downtown are registered every month. And it does not describe a way to a happy utopian society, neither how to make a device less attractive. Instead it shows an interestig application to wipe your data via sms (or whatever it does) in case your precious electronic companion is taken from you by whatever reason. Somewhere in the world someone doesn't think it's absurd to imagine your phone might be stolen!... (And I bet there's also a 1.99 iWsrobbd app for iPhone.)

As for the topic, I like 'Rover' too. Reminds me of the heroic martian rovers, extreme hi-tec and mobile!...

I had to translate 'rove' the other day, and only then I found out it has some connotation of 'walking carelessly' or being a bum. That's kinda streetwise, might help the tablets survive here in the concrete jungle!

I also liked that crazy nonsensical word somebody invented. Myself, I call it my 'dæmon' in reference to the Golden Compass entities!...

love rove!.. 'rOVI'! MOTO ROVR

Apple is an innovator. The nice UI and the first phone having finger multi-touch is Apple's. But all the boy "genius" report - parrots are exagerating when they simply destroy device after device coming from Nokia. I don't know yet if N900 will be multi-touch or not... How can you say "touch" in Italian or Spanish or Finnish? That might be a good name for the device, if the word is cachy...

I think Apple only has patents on a subset of multitouch behaviour\gestures, not the whole multi-touch concept\implementation. Something about locking vertical\horizontal movements during scrolls. I also think their biggest 'innovations' are in UI and UX, something that's hard to technically quantify.

I've only read of Boy Genius' review of N97, and to be fair that device hasn't got much critical acclaim anywhere else.

'Touch' is the wrong angle for Nokia, as it's been pretty much cornered by Apple by being first and (currently) most popular 'touch' smartphone\media player. We don't want the RX-51 to be yet another free advertisement to Apple's product.

IMHO the name should emphasize the device's openness, versatility and flexibility.

Yes, Blackberry's new competitor: the Nokia Bingcherry.

it could, of course, be the other way round: nokia might want to stick with the Nxx-naming-scheme for a brand new platform because they hope some of the media attention it may have will help all the other N-series phones, too.

(somebody here in this thread said something like "...now that they have N-series phones, too...", which makes me wonder how many people in a certain corner of the world know about the long and successful tradition of the N-series at all.)

I like Nexus. The geek reference is subtle. But something from both Bladerunner and Star Trek would be cool.

Node might be a problem. I could see it easily morphing into "Nerd Node."

And we're all geeks here, not nerds, right?

"Is that a Nexus 6 in your pocket or are you just glad you're human?"
