as the title says, im trying to find the fastest way to send files to my phone through the wi-fi (since i cant go around with usb cable all the time ) anyway i found two ways :
1-using SSH and filezilla from any computer.
2-using tinysmb to turn my phone as a server and then enter the ip address from any browser and have the phone content.
and im using the second way at the moment since i dont need a special browser like filezilla, anyway i mentioned all of this to help anyone who is interested in the matter, now to my problem {the speed} i get at the best time 1 mb maximum and that is not enough
im not sure if the iphone has a superior technology but i dont think thats the case but it have an app called airshare and it transfer files about 8-10 mb if im not mistaken, so is there any way i can increase mine ???? or is it a hardware limitations ??
note: i already think that the ssh encyption is doing the slowdown but is the tinysmb server using SSH ?? and is there a way to stop the ssh encyption (IF ITS the cause of the slowdown).
sorry if i wrote a lot since this is my first post and dont want to leave anything out
anyway thanks in advance

thanks for the quick reply and sorry if the subject was already mentioned before.
its funny though, i tried to find a relative thread but didn't find any, yet there was a recent one that touch the same exact subject xD
i checked the referred link out and found that the fastest way is by proftpd but its old and unstable also its need older frimware so i need to downgrade to a more buggy frameware (not that the current one is way better xD) so i would stick with the tinySmb for now but if the tinysmb is using ftp then it should use the whole speed with no encryption right ?

TinySMB uses SMB, not FTP for transfer.

My personal preference is SSH/SCP.

cd /directory/you/want/to/share
python -m SimpleHTTPServer

This has saved me grief a few times

So basically OP is asking how fast you guys are able to transfer files over wifi and is there any overhead on using SSH.

I´m getting
up/down with ssh n900 and winscp (using scp protocol) 54 Mbit/s WPA2.
~450-500 kB/s (from/to rootfs or emmc)

.edit
python http server on n900 gives download speed of
~500 kB/s

..edit
Additionally Wifi encryption (e.g. wpa) could also slow transfer little. Still remember that in many cases you are able to connect n900 to pc as external memory with usb cable and it should be used whenever it´s possible if you need speed. (I carry this with me Micro-sub-short-cable(ebay))

...edit
6.75 MB/s is the maximum possible value. So factor in all the obstructuions and signal strength and you're looking at an average of maybe 2.5-3 MB/s actual speed on 802.11g 54 Mbit/s

@slender: thanks for the reply, i already know that i wont be getting more than 2-4 mb max from it, but even that is a far cry from what i get now (600kb-1mb max), as to the other guys thanks for the reply but i want a way that wont be needing any client on the pc, since i go to several places with defferent computers and i need to transfer files from all of them, and cant install or even insert a usb device in it (yeah im a spy XDDD), so all i can do is to transfer it "wirelessly" (there, happy now F2thaK ), soooo
which is the best or will at least get me 2.5-4 mb ????
again thanks guys in advance
