There's still stuff like meego, android like you said.
You could also turn it into a low power server?
Something that automate things, like listen in for texts/emails/tweets/irc and executes actions based on it.

n900 isnt retiring ,it is still out there ,even now there is no better machine other than n900 ..hail n900 ( except only an issue of flash 10 )

Well after watching a very poor review of the N8, i think it will be sold and I'll stick with N900 
Guess there is no chance of changing the OS on the N8 is there?

I would switch back to the N900.
My wife has an N8 and while she likes it, mainly due to the camera (which is amazing in terms of picture quality) I really could not see myself EVER going from Maemo to Symbian.
IMO Symbian is horrendous, the interface is long outdated, slow and unresponsive, constantly freezing, upgrades wipe your contacts, SMS etc so you have to sync back to Ovi... a high end device with low end OS I'm afraid.

I got the N900 on contract 18 months ago with the idea of learning about linux and I really liked the open source aspect and have loved every minute as well as learning a lot.
But now I don't have to worry about bricking and being without my primary communication device at least till I got chance to re-flash, I was wondering what would be the most useful thing to do with my "old" N900 now that I have a new "primary device".
I really don't want to sell it, it would be like selling my first born
Sensible ideas please......
was thinking: install stuff from -dev to help testing or get Xen working
are there any other projects out there.... I know MeeGo stuff is kicking about just wanted some thoughts...and thought this might be useful for other people in the same position.
