When my N900 and my laptop are connected to my WiFi network to the same time, my laptop comes up in the media player of my n900..
but wen i press it it doesn't show anything..

I suppose i can play music, stored on my laptop, but i don't know exactly how..

does anybody knows how to configure my laptop/n900 to make use of this function?

(and probably if this will work, i can use my laptop as a media center on my PS3..?)

If you're on Windows, may I suggest TVersity?

Hey Bartcore3,

It will depends on the OS you have on your laptop. If it is Win7 it should be quite easy. You do it bu going to the "Open Network and Sharing Center" which you can access by right clicking on your network logo on the left bottom corner or by going to Control Panel.

The solution is to create a network in your laptop in the "Open Network and Sharing Center --> Manage Wireless Network -->Add (new network) --> Create an ad hoc network. Fill out the information and save the network. After connect your N900 to your new network.

You could also access the internet by this network.

And I think you need to allow these folders to be shared (in Open Network and Sharing Center --> Change advance sharing settings) the by your new network to make it work.

If you have Win7 you don't need to create an ad-hoc network you just need to make sure you allow media streaming. It's in Choose Homegroup And Sharing Options - make sure Stream my pictures etc is ticked.

If I remember, correct me if I am wrong , the other party (other PC) need to have Win7 OS and access the Homegroup to be able to views the files which is not the case for the N900 using Maemo.
Anyway it worked easily for me this way.

You can configure W7 to share to any device over UPnP/DLNA in the Windows Media Player/Center settings even if it's not in the homegroup (or Windows at all)

sooo i changed some settings like Gk@gqr* suggested.
it works fine now! But a problem pops up..
can i chose the path of the folder i'dd like to share?
Because now it's in my public folder but i don't feel like copying all my music and movies to that folder..
