i recently downloaded the Hide user agent app from the repo.
after installing it i just set the user agent to -

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1

and after that i was able to see 720p and 1080p videos.
although HD videos were slightly laggy.

My N900 becomes pretty much unresponsive when I do that.

I use CuteTube when I really want to enjoy a video as it delivera the content the absolute highest quality the N900 can handle a) hardware wise and b) over a cellular connection.

Same here. Flash 9 on the N900 has basically no hardware acceleration and is a steaming pile of sh*t IMNSHO. I have to use it to listen to Pandora and it totally locks up the phone to the point that I have to use the power button menu and "End current task" after it's been playing for over a few hours. Failing that I can usually get to a shell prompt and kill it, otherwise it's power off time.

The Youtube plugin for Mediabox Media Center ( both available in extras-devel ) is similar and I also use it quite often. It works great IMO.
