(Yes, this is a few days late, but I was offline for a few days, and boy does it take a long time to catch up on this thread, and I haven't seen an answer to this one ..)

The same reason you buy HP and Dell (or RHEL and Oracle Linux). . Even though it may require a bit more effort in terms of support, you absolutely can't afford complete vendor lock-in.

Especially when the vendor holds all the cards (e.g. Android).

(Why this doesn't pervade into desktop operating systems, virtualisation platforms etc. in some companies is the real question that keeps me awake at night).

from page 2:

"Whether it’s an upcoming new mind-blowing nPhone or WinPhone, a smoothly slim nPad or WinPad with all the ultra-elegant OS, app and cloud trimmings, or some device that looks to nFinity (or WinFinity?!) and beyond, Nokia has promised a disruptive new device."

summary:

- we will see a new disruptive device, whatever it will be.
- its tech demo only, only questions regarding the technology are allowed
- other questions will be answered at an event late june

doesnt sound so bad to me.

isnt this what we want? a tech demo of the future ("disruption")?

7 days left... time is ticking... very slow...

edit
next week!

Nokia’s sneak peek of ‘new market disputing device’ coming June 21

Nokia is set to take the wraps off its “newest, soon-to-be-named” device, with a live on-site demo of the product and then the live broadcast of Nokia CEO Stephen Elop’s Nokia keynote in Singapore on June 21.

With an event invitation that’s thin on details yet, leaving the mind to conjure up a universe of speculative possibility, Nokia’s June 21 announcement promises a new market disruptor.

"Please note this will be a product demonstration only. "

I again take this that the Harmattan will not be released...

Disruption already happened with iphone. It integrated so many good things that NOKIA had in pieces here or there into a single, touchscreen friendly device. Harmattan is not disruptive in the least as a technology. I dont see how Harmattan can be called disruptive.

It is an interesting topic though: What would constitute a disruptive device for you?
