The main cause for long-term slowdowns is swap space fragmentation afaik. Restarting hildon-desktop wouldn't fix that; I'd recommend looking into doing that with a background script every once in a while or so.

9 desktops filled with widgets is the cause. I have 2 desktops with minimal widgets, ever since ive changed to that my device has been muuch better
