i have a question!. why does the desktop on the N900 lockup so easily? if I dont switch my phone off and on atleast once every day it locks up or slows down!. also is there away to release it without switch off ie control alt delete type thing. The screen will scroll though all 9 desktops but all icon will not respond. Any answers?.

The main cause for long-term slowdowns is swap space fragmentation afaik. Restarting hildon-desktop wouldn't fix that; though if your issue isn't that but is actually desktop-caused, restart of hildon-desktop could be good.

I'm not sure if optimizeN900 actually turns swap on/off, but if it doesn't, I'd recommend looking into doing that with a background script every once in a while or so.

Some very good surgestions. while I will try optimizer and kill all, this script sounds like something worth implementing into the os. So whats the script? as im not linux trained just picking up as I go along.

Good call. 200%+ of normal number of desktops and we are wondering why there is a problem. Was he being ironic?

Sorry guys but I have to disagree to an extent. ive had 9 desktops for just over a fort night now. Before that I was at my normal 4... and you would be surprized how few widgets I do have now and had before and its doing just as it was when I had 4 desktops. So while I agree the 9 desktops will be taking up resorses, 4 was giving me the same issue. I've only just desided to high light it!.
