Not sure what license issues you are referring to, qt is opensource. At least the version I am shipping. And Koffice is working just fine, but it does not do word docs, or excel files.

I've tried the openoffice port on the Sharp Zaurus (under QT/X -- see http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/). It takes a few minutes to start up, but once running it seems to run ok. Needs a swap file though. The N800 has as much ram as the Z's do.

I doubt it helps but, puppylinux has a nice slim version of openoffice (and a couple more popular & smaller word processors.) All geared towards less memory and limited processing power.

I'd say that Docs2Go from DataViz would be the most likely choice since they already support PalmOS, Windows Mobile, Symbian and are hinting at offering iPhone support.

I'd say drop 'em a line:

If you have a word document that AbiWord (a recent desktop version) chokes on, please file a bug and attach the file: http://bugzilla.abisource.com/ - our import should handle nearly every word doc, and so if there's something being missed, an example (small and simple is best - isolate the problem if possible) is the best way to get it fixed.

Java is not required for oowriter or oocalc. It's required for the database portion of the suite and that's it. And really, there's no reason Java can't be ported to the tablet, other than lack of interest. It's also not as heavy as people think: it runs fine with 256 meg of RAM - something the ITs are capable of.

Well it equals 256, but where do I get the second 128 from exactly?

Did I miss a hardware upgrade somewhere, I am feeling cheated? We are talking RAM not swap space right fellas?

N800 Memory

DDR RAM 128MB
Flash 256MB

N810 Memory

DDR RAM 128MB
Flash 256MB

Perhaps you are squishing a N800 and a N810 together real hard? Does this equal 800Mhz?

Oh I am so confused???

Perhaps he means you can get the extra memory via swap space.
