Said it hundred times and I will say it again: Name of the OS or the FOSS thinking does not compute with USER EXPERIENCE.
Normally I would agree with you but watch and see the reviews that come out. You will see them point out the difference between switching to developer mode and jailbreaking an iphone and I have a feeling that end users will also. It is also a money/time saving feature.

Perhaps you don't consider it to be important whether a device runs Meego-Harmattan or Windoze Phone, but I do. It's not about the name.

I appreciate that it doesn't matter to most consumers, who will vote with their wallets. We'll see soon enough whether Nokia have the right gamble. To date, not many consumers seem to want to spend money on Windoze Phone devices.
I do agree. It needs to have support. Let's hope Nokia keeps it's word.

I've seen your really good work but I still don't understand why do you care so much about putting wp7 and harmattan against each other.

WP7 won't have qt. You are developing qt apps, right?

You guys just dont get it do you, throw FOSS in the bin because without the source code for the N9 NO DEVELOPMENT of any value can take place.

I have just pointed this out on the thread about raising funds for further development for the N900.

THIS community has failed drastically simply because it could not put together a working OS for the N900 because of lack of code for closed components.

The N9 is for sure a "here we go again" situation, and why? because people have fallen in love with this device and they are blinded from previous history of software development and its faIlure for the N900.

FOSS is a joke an absolute joke, never worked never will work.

Microsoft publishes a guide for porting Qt applications on Windows Phone

Download (PDF 5 MB):

P.S. I've posted that only for your information, so don't kill me (don't like WP)

Wise words abill, wise words FOSS has never worked in mobile. Samsung is next to take that wrong step with Bada. Some people might want to move to some Samsung forum. Oh wait...

IF microsoft can pull it together somehow some way, and i am not saying they will, then who knows what companies might join in the development for WP.

It is not a crime to talk about WP you know !!!.

I do so because the dismal future of Meego-Harmattan (and to a lesser extent Symbian) appears to be a direct result of the decision to adopt Windoze Phone as the primary platform.

If your saying that it doesn't matter whether a device runs Symbian, S40 or Meego-Harmattan, then I can sympathise with that, although I have found targeting Symbian to be a massive pain in the arse when it comes to multimedia. I'm not convinced that Nokia will be able to make it painless to target Meego-Harmattan, Symbian and S40. With Nokia, it's always 'coming soon' or 'in the next SDK update'. Of course, when the update arrives, it's a beta, so you have to wait another six months for the stable release before you can use it to target the Ovi Store.

I know it takes time, and I appreciate that Qt on Symbian is still immature. But that's my point. I'm doubtful that it will get to a mature stage before Symbian is phased out. As for S40, who knows?
