Just like how DSLRs are moving away from CF cards and going to SD cards, I think mobiles phones can do the same. SIM cards do not need to be any bigger than the microsim size anyways. The top part is just useless plastic that uses space for no reason. If Nokia is jumping on the MicroSIM bandwagon, maybe more will follow suit and maybe within the nex couple of years, we will have all new phones using it instead of full sized SIM cards.

I can see your point, although I'm not convinced that the reduced size will produce any significant benefits in terms of device form factor. There is also the matter of switching the SIM between your new phone and an existing one that doesn't support MicroSIM. Sure, you can use an adaptor, but it's an annoyance that serves little or no purpose.

MicroSIM could be the new widely adopted standard. Or it could be the new BTX.

It's funny how things turn around in the press:

I thought it was Nokia's strategy which sort of killed meego. Now it's Intel's killing of meego what killed the N9's success. LOL

No, not Android, hopefully something from Samsung wit this Tizen thing. N9 to hold me over til then.....

i'm really eager to see what comes out of this Tizen (eleven in Hungarian. what's up with that?) but I'm not holding my breath. I would be surprised if they ever release a handset with this in it. Intel's handset chips are so far behind arm right now and Samsung has already failed once with LiMo.

Smaller size of anything means free space for other stuff =P

True. Nokia were able to use the space saved to insert (pick one) the following in the N9!

a) external memory card slot
b) dual sim slots
c) HDMI port
d) none of the above.

Hehe you know what I mean. A penny here, a penny there... it adds up .

Also: screw dual sim, screw memory cards and.. well hdmi Ive used once on my N8 and it wasnt that big of a deal.

*stubborn*

ONLY thing Im kind of annoyed with about this phone is the fact that its got a slow as hell mobile data network thing. 3.5g instead of H and H+ which I have on my SGS2 atm.
