I decided to make a thread about this instead of adding to the numerous threads to stress the importance. I purchased my N900 the week it came out, I have been overclocking at 1.15GHz for well over a year using the same battery from 2008 (that the phone came with).

I see a lot of people here talking about battery life and the relation to voltage, overclocking, kernels, etc. I just purchased 3 Japod BL-5J 3.7V 1350mAh batteries - my battery life has increased 10x+.

You NEED TO REPLACE YOUR BATTERY! IT IS WORTH THE $7!!! TRUST ME!!! I charge every night, I bought the phone when it was released in November of 2008. That is 1095 charging cycles assuming I don't use my car charger or plug it in before I go out to the bars. In reality the real number is most likely closer to 3000+ charging cycles. Other variables such as heat and weather conditions could play a huge part. If you have ANY QUALMS WITH YOUR BATTERY LIFE AT ALL GET A NEW BATTERY - I CHOOSE A JAPOD (review here on talk.maemo.org.)

For those who are curious I am clocked at 1150MHz, I have had a VERY busy day - WiFi connected browsing for 2 hours straight, hour long phone calls, lots of camera use, lots of widgets, constant texting, screen at full brightness, etc. and I still am going strong (~35%) after 11 hours.

I should have done this a long time ago. Learn from my mistake.

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=65568 - All right here, I wanted to make a new thread to really stress the point. It made such a huge difference. I really wanted to drive the point home, to everyone who has a battery that is over a year old - and it's worth the $7 - I bought 3!

It seems a lot of people have the mindset that changing voltages, frequencies, profiles, etc. make a big difference (and they do) and it is free to do those things. However if you're using a battery that is pretty much shot, you're not going to be getting the results you see and some of our geeky minds forget that you have to shell out a few bucks to get a new battery.

i've been on the scud battery for a few months now. If you plan on continuing to use your n900 like I am; definitely worth it.

my n900's birthday is coming up in December. I have a 17 year old sister who uses a blackberry and keeps getting newer models once her contracts expire. I asked her recently to do something on my n900 while my hands were greasy cooking, after only a few minutes she said your phone is awesome. I told her I was considering the n9; she wanted dibs on my n900. Two f'n years and this phone is still amazing.
