Look for GPE Calendar. There's other applications on that website, just click on the "show packages" link and it'll show the programs etc.

the Gene Cash apps are not compatible with N810 and most likely not compatible with OS2008 in general (I could be wrong on the 2nd part).

For a nice place to go to for apps (including GPE calender, contacts, etc) Go here: http://maemo.org/downloads/OS2008 . The gronmayer page listed in the op is great for downloading a bunch of repositories all at once or looking for a particular package. I use maemo.org for general browsing through available apps.

Please don't be alarmed if when you try to download/install an app right now if you get error messages and have a hard time. Maemo Extras is the repository with a lot of cools apps in it but it's not working well right now. However, it appears that GPE suite is not in that repository so you should be able to grab it.

Asbestos undies on...

Don't take this the wrong way, but these are pretty weak PIM apps being suggested here.

One thing I decided to buy back in '99 was a Palm calendar with icons on the events (Action Names, now Agendus). That way, at a glance I could see what was scheduled where. I got to really enjoy integrated todos with alarms attached to them. It also had integration with contacts that could be grouped. This was nine years ago! I soon after switched to Datebk5, and I really enjoyed what you could do with floating events and especially the templates. When I went to PPC briefly, I was blown away by Pocket Informant. Check out what THAT can do.

On this amazing palmtop computer - I can't even set which day starts the week?

I don't want to minimize the hard work the developers are doing on GPE - it's a great start, but it's really weak. It's almost, but not quite as good as having a paper planner stuck in your n8x0 case.

i.e. The toolbar has no "New Event" button? It limits appointments from 8-6? If I'm looking at the day view, and hit Menu/File/New (sigh) it defaults the event to the beginning of the day, not the current time - then has the gall to prompt you that you are trying to set an appoinment in the past! How about an appointment that has no time constraints - say, an anniversary. I don't want to schedule that as an all day event, because it's not the same thing, in my mind.

It's a pretty forms app (and a handy little program), but it's not a PIM. The combination we have of open source + powerful machines + brilliant programmers COULD develop something that smokes those, but... "GPE is good enough". It's in no way good enough, and please don't stop working on it. Please jot these things down (I'll try and forward them somewhere appropriate) and PLEASE don't be offended by this post.

There's a billion old threads on this, but I'll sum up my point of view... Nokia probably deliberately excluded PIM functionality out of the box because they're trying to create a new class of device - - the internet tablet. Remember when Suzuki released the Sport Utility Vehicle? (Ok, it was a station wagon, but that term is now in existence).

If they included a cell radio, people would say it's a phone. If they included a PIM suite, people would say it was a PDA (or worse a Palm Pilot).

Ya didn't buy a laptop. Ya didn't buy a cell phone. Ya didn't buy a PDA. Ya bought an internet tablet.

True enough, BUT. I still have to lug the z31 or the pitiful one on the cell phone around so guess what gets left at home?

Not enough hotspots out there to access a web based PIM (of whatever sort) so the n800 gets left at home. With a pim for it I'd be leaving the z31 at home (which would make me REALLY happy :-).

Eventually there will be one for it, perhaps even one we can sync to something that is useful to us.

While I understand what you are saying and to some extent agree, IMO it was utterly stupid to not include one, I could live without map, skype and rapsody but the PIM is rather important in my daily life :-). Instead of being as useful as it could have been, the n800 is relegated to a cute little linux toy and I continue to lug around the hated Z31. Sigh.

Friends, I am so sorry for being thick, but I only find GPE Calendar and Contacts for os2007.
If you could please tell me exactly where to find them for os2008, I would be very thankful.

How can I reach developers to ask them to develope a PIM for the 810 that will integrate with email etc.?

hedge... thats the same repeated horseshit comment to which i was referring , if they wanted that why in the hell did they include something called C-O-N-T-A-C-T-S....as half assed as it is , not everyones contacts are IM based...people do have these things called phone numbers , and addresses and regardless of what class of device this is , the vast majority are going to want decent pim functionality in a pocketable , handheld computer device.
