i wanted to change the menu screen transitions to the wave effect transition. alot of people say to get rootsh, ( i already have) open X-term, type sudo gainroot and then they say "JUST" open the usr/share/hildon blah blah blah. and change it there. HOW DO I DO IT OR HOW CAN I SEE IT? normally someone checks the file manager, but only the basic folders show. NO "USER" folder to begin the digging. . can someone really tell me what to do here. where on earth is the root folders? do i need a cursor or something to navigate that folder? its not showing in file manager, so where is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! help is greatly appreciated forever.

Relax man
You have a few options here...
- install leafpad, then you type in X-terminal
sudo gainroot (enter)
leafpad /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini (enter)
Leafpad will open and you can change the file

- install Filebox and in settings enable root acces
navigate to /usr/share/hildon-desktop
longpress on transitions.ini and choose edit

now on the transitions.ini file
change [launcher_in]
............duration = 250 change it to 600 or 1000 or whatever
............sequenced = 0 change it to 1
and change also
............[launcher_in_sub]
............duration = 250 change it to 600 or 1000......
............sequenced = 0 change it to 1

save, close file and it"ll be OK

But first back up your transitions.ini just in case if you would mess things up

Umm, you copy the file before editing? Like in "sudo cp transitions.ini transitions.ini.bak"?

I'm pretty sure if you have a transitions file in your current theme folder it will override hildon-desktop. Seems there are more than a few themes that come with transitions files these days, also if you use TC it creates them in the theme folders.

Provided you have leafpad installed, type:

leafpad /usr/share/hildon-desktop

Have you got "rootsh installed"?
Do you have leafpad? If not, you can use Vi.

tried to open x-term, type sudo cp transitions.ini (enter)
and now its asking for a password. is this normal? i mean, also, do i need to install an app that speeds the n900 in order to use the wave effect transition? =)
