Nokia predicted to sell 37 million Windows Phones this year!

While Nokia’s Windows Phones are far from being mainstream or even have that level of awareness in the market, Morgan Stanley however suggest that the company could sell around 37 million Windows Phone devices in 2012.



They report that the Windows Phone-based Lumia line of smartphones will be the devices that will make that possible and Nokia has been doing their best to market them accordingly. The report suggests that the sales will reach 64 million by 2013, which is pretty optimistic in terms of projections. But it’s not entirely impossible and the phone could easily catch up if it offers something different from the competition.

We’ll have to wait and see if this comes true, but Windows Phone 7 [later 8] will definitely be a formidable competitor to the market owned by Android and iOS.

IIRC it's "only" about WHQL certification requirements. "If you want that sticker on your machine, please lock out uncertified 3rd party operating systems / the ability for users to install so".

And this enforcement of secure mode is _only_ on ARM, for x86 it seems there's the possibility to still boot into custom mode or disable secure boot in general.

Seems as they don't have the market penetration / edge / ability to get some on mobile ARM platforms, they want to use an brute-force approach. Nothing to see here, move on folks...

How-much-ever we love our N9s [I do], the fact remains that this platform has been dumped; and shall remain within a handful of us, a collector's device [which is why I possess all of them, all colors/variants].

That said, besides the overwhelming twin platforms [iOS & Andy] the only other worthwhile [sic] operating system remains the WPOS... we like it or otherwise. Let us take that with a pinch of salt - coming from the same form factor, the Lumias might at least keep the ball rolling, try & give the other two a challenge - if not a run - in our shape, size & colors.

Then, this is also our 1st cousin!

Maybe not the most popular opinion around here, but i have truly been enjoying my Lumia 800 for past week and replaced it with my N9 as my main phone.

I got the looks of the best looking phone in the planet imo with a platform that at least is going somewhere and damn smooth to use(even compared to my iPad 2). Been kind of bummed about the whole open source thing after following it for past 2-3 years. Community around all these projects have been awesome, but they have been just that, projects.
Could not care less about Tizen, or whatever it name might be tomorrow.

That said if it was about the me i would have wanted to see where harmattan could have gone with the money now poured to WP.

I used my Lumia 800 for about 5 mins before almost falling in to a coma because it's so boring. To be fair, my response to Harmattan was similar. After a few minutes of swiping, I asked myself 'is that it?'. ZZZZZZZZzzzzz.

If Nokia sell 37m Windoze Phones this year, I'll show my bare arse in Elops' chosen department store.

Though can you say iOS for example is more exciting UI wise? I have found the tiles to be more informative than iOS's wall of icons.

Be it a phase or something but i'm just looking for a phone that's smooth and just works. At the pace i'm switching phones, i'm looking at next phone in 6 months, most probably running on iOS or WP.

I don't know anything of iOS, but the fact that both the Lumia 800 and N9 can be reasonably compared to the iPhone illustrates my point. They are just A.N.Other boring smartphone. This is my beef with the N9. If someone wants A.N.Other smartphone that 'just works', they are probably better off with an iPhone or Windoze Phone. If you want more than that, then the N9 doesn't really deliver.

As for the Lumia, I took my free device, and will write software for it. But just like my N950, I probably won't use it for any other purpose.

Then again - this one is out !
