Hey all, I'm a new n800 owner and I'm loving the device so far, but I'm having serious issues with the Navicore personal GPS software.

I reflashed to OS2008 as soon as I got the n800 and then put the Navicore SD card in and tapped the installer. The install seemed to go smoothly, and when it was done it had a applet on the desktop. However, the applet said "Map" and had the map application icon. Sure enough, when you tapped it, the Map application opened. I thought that this might be a conflict with the map application, so I uninstalled Navicore and Map, and then reinstalled Navicore. This time there was a Navicore applet on the desktop. It said "Navicore" and had the Navicore icon. However, when I clicked it, the "Navicore Loading" bubble popped up for a few seconds and then disappeared. Nothing happened afterwards.

I unistalled again and installed from the DVD. Same results.

I called the two numbers listed for Navicore tech support here in the U.S., but both numbers were out of service. I contacted them through their website, but I'm not holding out any hope of actually being contacted back.

Anyone out there have any ideas on this?

Thanks
wm

You can not install Navicore on a machine running OS2008...

Instead, use the "Map" program that was installed by default. Open it, then hit the arrow along the right side of the screen. A slide out menu will present you with a few options. One of the options will be "Enter License Code" or somesuch. Enter your old Navicore number (the one that starts with CD, do not add the CD BTW).

Unfortunately, since you deleted the Map program, you may have to re-flash OS2008.

There are quite a few threads on the subject or you can go to the "Wayfinder" site and drill down for the FAQ for Internet Tablets. Their FAQ answers all of these questions in greater detail.

hmm, well, that sucks. The part about not being able to install Navicore on OS2008, that is...

I'm giving it a go now.

I'm a little confused I suppose. How does a Navicore license work for a Wayfinder product?

Its the same company. I'm interested to see how this pans out. I bought the navigator kit a couple of months ago for my 770 and id like to know if i can transfer the licence to my N800 with OS 2008. I tried it when my N800 had OS 2007 and i got a message saying "Licence Already In Use".

After reading about all the frustration, problems and aggravation with map / navicore / wayfinder I think that uninstalling it and just enjoying maemo mapper was the smart thing to do :-).

Sort of, they used to be separate companies but Wayfinder bought Navicore earlier this year.

You can definitely transfer the licence to either Navicore on N800 OS2007 or Wayfinder "Map" on N800/N810 OS2008, you just need to deactivate the "in use" instance using navicore on the 770 first.

The applications are generally very similar. If you're using OS2008 you'll have to switch to Wayfinder.

Incidentally, there are a couple of other threads that discuss this but once you load Wayfinder on OS2008 you'll need to download maps. I was never able to get the download to complete but it turns out the Wayfinder maps are identical to the Nav kit maps and you can copy them over from your nav kit CD or SD card. The other threads discuss what to copy and where to copy it.

Thanks! Yeah, I had read the post about wayfinder accepting the license key without a map installed, so I was ready for that one.

I had read through a few posts about the wayfinder software before asking my original question, I just didn't know they pertained to the Navicore install.

I got Wayfinder working... ok... That being, it works in a "map out a route to my destination" kind of way, but I don't have the voice prompts for some reason.

The more I play with this thing the more I'm considering downgrading back to the most recent OS2007 release....
