Any hint how to add widgets? I see only one binary in your package:
/opt/widgetcanvas/bin/widgetcanvas
Are all widgets compiled in?
I dream of writing QML widgets that can be added in your widgetcanvas.
So is there a HowTo for developing widgets anywhere or do you plan to release the whole system as open source so that we can learn from your widget examples?

Would be great!

Thanks so far for your great addition to Harmattan!

Right now you can't add any widgets, but in my next version you can: widgets will be found in /opt/widgetcanvas/widgets. If you wanna see how to write widgets, you can check this package. It's the 0.0.1 version and the examples are there. I will write an HowTo when I'll be done with exams.

Version 0.1.0. Download it here.

Widgets can be added to /opt/widgetcanvas/widgets, restart application to make it see freshly added ones.

WARNING: DUE TO HEAVY CHANGES IN CODE TO ALLOW INSTALLING 3RD PART WIDGETS, ALL WIDGETS' SETTINGS ARE GOING TO BE LOST, REMOVE AND READD WIDGETS TO MAKE THEY CREATE CORRECT SETTINGS.

Is there gonna be the option to disable swipe, so that we could use the widgetcanvas as the main UI of the phone? I rememeber that someone made similat requeste earlier.

The application closing could be on the menu at the lower right.

Fantastic work by the way.

That was me asking for disabling swipe. But gionni88 thought I meant swiping of desktops. But I meant disabling swiping away the app.
Put a "Maemo5" like menu button on the top left and it will be more awesome!

Once you press on the menu button, it will close the widget canvas and run it as a daemon. Now that is pretty neat if you ask me

Edit: I made a very quick mock-up on how this will be like, the first one is with the default staturbar, the second one without the harmattan statusbar. I prefer the one without the statusbar. Still love the Maemo5 feeling

@ asys3: were you able to succesfully add widgets?

New widgets I plan to add:
FMRadio
TodoLister
SystemInfo (MyDocs memory, opt etc)
AppLauncher
WebPage
BatteryInfo

I also plan to add an option to switch visualization of the desktopbar or 3 icons, like messages and addressbook.

@HtheB : I have understood you meant the system swipe. There is another project implementing widgets which has maemo bar and android like toolbar available on meego.con forum. I personally think applications should mix well with OS: system swipe is the battle horse of Harmattan, using a button like on n900 to switch app to background while all it would take is a swipe isn't that nice in my opinion.

It's always nice to have atleast the option to make this feature come truth
Even if you don't like it, I think there are more people like me that like to have a bit of maemo5 on our harmattan devices.
Can you still please satisfy us?

pretty please?

I was thinking something more functional:

a maemo5 like (not 1 to 1 copy btw) status bar where:
left button will open a dialog for fast app search
the bar will open a vertical drawer (similar to what I have done on SigmaPlayer cold silver theme to show the current playlist) where to put usefull config values, like brightness, battery save mode, battery percentage etc.

My question is: what to put in that bar? An user-defined string like with custom operator on N900? Don't forget my aim is to keep the application functional and graphically appealing. A Maemo5 status bar copy is not so nice within this context. I accept any critic and suggestion, but I have to keep improving what I have, spending the time I can affort the better I can. Right now implementing a maemo5 clone status bar to hide the application (reachable with a system swipe) and to show battery value (when there is a system wide status bar showing that and more), hiding the system status bar which let the user access the primary (as Nokia employes tought) device functions is not improving it, in my point of view. I'm not saying I won't do that in future, but right now it isn't in my priorities. Don't forget I have several projects going on and I have to focus the time I have.

Replicating the status bar is also impossible, I will not be able to put notifications there or access the functions set there.
