you can try executing below commands:
root
vi /var/lib/dpkg/info/maemeemo.postrm
then remove last line. i.e.,
dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=org.freedesktop.Notifications /org/freedesktop/Notifications org.freedesktop.Notifications.SystemNoteDialog string:"Note that you need to manually restore the original transitions.ini" uint32:0 string:"OK"
save it
then run:
apt-get purge maemeemo
then follow this before you switch off N900 (Very Important): http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=264
then restart N900 and install maemeemo again.

The "very important step" may not be needed with 1.3.0-3
the portrait wallpapers is set when you set a wpaper being in the portrait mode, i think but snot sure.
