Hi, I just wanted to announce the release of my first Maemo "application". The Status Area Display Blanking Applet let you easily change the display blanking mode right from the status menu, without having to go through the settings.

This is specially useful if you have a short blanking time when you use applications that you want to look at for a long time without interacting with the phone and don't inhibit display blanking by themselves (for example a web browser, image viewer or some GPS applications).

Update: you can show your love now via flattr
https://flattr.com/thing/1141802/Sta...plet-for-Maemo

Details on code repository, release, sources, etc. in the project's website or in the package description.

Here are some screenshots (the application is highlighted so you can spot it more easily ):

Please feel free to leave your comments an suggestions here.

Woops! Should be fixed now, sorry about that. If you still get the 403 error, try removing the ".nyud.net" from the domain in the links, is to use the Coral Content Distribution Network (http://www.coralcdn.org/) to minimize the stress of my modest hosting and sometimes it takes time to update their cache.

Let me know how it went.

Soon, soon, remember this is just a pre-release, even when what I have in mind is a very simple applet, I'm still far from my goal

1.0 should have:
  • The current button to easily change display blanking mode
  • A button to toggle display blanking inhibition (without changing the blanking mode)
  • A button to enable display blanking inhibition for a limited amount of time (blanking inhibition will be automatically disabled after a user defined time)

So, what I'm posting here is just a preview, so you can leave some feedback if you have any Otherwise I will continue with my plan, posting here the progress until a more or less complete version, and only then I'll investigate how to upload it to extras-devel.

Version 0.3 released, now with a nice dialog to choose the blanking mode.

Please report any problems as even when it seems to be working fine now, I had some instability issues while adding the new feature.

The screenshots should be updated soon, or you can see them now in the announcement in my blog:
http://www.llucax.com.ar/blog/blog/post/-2bb84c95

You can also subscribe to new releases through this RSS feed:

I'll keep dropping a message here announcing pre-releases until the package is uploaded to extras-devel.

Next step is adding display blanking inhibition!
