a simple reflash should do the trick better than someone else's rootfs. SIM card issues might also simply be failing hardware than software issues.

also, you are aware that BackupMenu doesn't back kernel up, so you have to be on the same kernel version as that on the device that provides the rootfs image?

if you reflash you can just download a PR1.3 image from Nokia's site.

it could be a hardware problem, but i need to try this first, i tried reflashing but it didn't work.

if reflashing didn't help, someone else's rootfs will definitely not.
It won't hurt to reflash again as carefully as possible .. flashing both rootfs and emmc if needed.

also, be sure to flash the Global rootfs image instead of the localized ones. If this doesn't help, you can bet on it that you have a hardware issue.

That is a known problem with the N900. Once the problem becomes constant like yours, you're out of luck, unfortunately. There is no known fix to date. Trust me.

That said .. I have always wondered if the same issue happens when you boot an alternative OS, such as Debian, and use ofono to talk to the modem. I suppose problem should still be there ... Then again, one can never know until they try.
