Hey Andy, I just got an N9 last month and I love it!
I'll just post here the stuff I got and removed in case you need it.
Firefox- always a good idea to have an extra browser at hand. Opera is good too, but I mostly use the default browser.
Torrential- Download files through torrents and stuff, haven't actually good time to test it, but always nice to know you can download through torrents
Meecast- In my opinion its better than the default weather application. you can post the weather icon on the standby screen and the lock screen, really nice UI too.
Billboard- recently got it, and its just an extra UI application. You can add text to the standby screen, including updating; time, date, profiles, internet connection. you can even add your own stuff to the screen.
Drop cache- it frees up Ram by killing not needed processes.
Battery Usage- can check how much of your battery is used up in idle mode, or by other applications
FBreader- ebook reader
wazzap- whatsapp
Homescreen setttings- someone already posted it really cool.
Filebox- File manager for the N9

Now let me post some mods or tweaks that i have.

Try N9QuickTweak by Schturman. He is compiling most of the hacks and tweaks into one application and it works really well. There is a detailed PDF instruction as well, so you won't be lost. Even if you are, just post it there, he'll help you out.

Check the thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80600

You may need to learn a few basic Linux commands for advanced mods.

Just an advice: if you're using this application, do not install other "similar" mods or hacks or it may cause reboot loop. Harmless, but annoying. Uninstall Homescreen settings too.

Good luck

I said that most who have tried to HEX EDIT THE BINARY to change the UA string have corrupted their browser. Learn to read.

And yes, I know all about Arie's posted method for installing different grob files to change the UA string. That method requires Inception to be installed and configured so I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is new to the N9. If you're responsible, you shouldn't either.

A better option is to install Opera and/or Firefox. Both of which let you set the user agent string to a desktop browser. Not to mention both of these browsers let you view a web page full screen, while the default browser has no way to hide the address bar.

Better yet, Firefox for the N9 supports Adobe Flash which will be welcome if you're coming from an N900 and used to a better standard of browsing.
I have successfully changed it

It requires inception and for as newbie not needed...

All you need to do is use the n9 now and enjoy it...

then after you get bored of it come back and we will help you mod it

Well I HAVE done the HEX EDIT...It works here flawlessly...The one Arie posted is a simpler method and yes I'm responsible for the grob files on that thread...

I know real noobs using it so i don't see the issue but saying MOST is not representative...the "MOST" phrase was not in order that's y i posted...

Stay away from faster N9 it corrupts your tracker which keeps track of your contacts, music, and texts...

Edit: torrential sucks.

use n9qtweak to adjust the default sound from 66% to 100%...refer to the pdf instructions or wiki before using the app...
