I have the same problem.when i tried to reflash the phone with maemo flasher i got this error:CMT flashing error
I used the latest global firmware:RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM
Also tried flashing eMMC as well,no luck with that.

Is this software related or hardware?

Thanks
Hardware. Go to the service center to get yourself a new device.

Having the same problem-erasing cmt failed, also no sim...
Sometimes I have been able to flash but most often not.
No warranty left, is there any hope?

Flashed the vanilla, went fine. Then I tried to flash the rootfs again but the problem persists.

I am using linux (mint).

You receive this issue ( CMT flashing failed) because you don't receive signals from your Network provider. If you had before the problem with "All telephony funtions...." , you may solve first this issue, ant then try to reflash your N900. I had the same problem, but finaly I solved it. Praise the Lord

Sorry for bumping this oldish thread but I wanted to share my fix.

I had the CMT failed error for many hours even when using multiple OSs, for some reason pressing on the battery with some force before and during the flashing process fixed it for me.

Maybe it is due to the lack of contact with the SIM card slot I've read about.
