We barely conversed (actually, I don't think we ever did directly. I think you thanked a post of mine once? I thanked a few of yours over the time I was here), Texrat, but I've come to respect you greatly over the course of my few months here at maemo.org: You've been a rather pleasant presence on these forums, amidst the trolling and general b!tching about how (company) sucks because of (policy) in regards to (phone), or how (phone) sucks because of (limitation).

Anyway, I haven't been around to support you the past four years, but in the background, I've been hoping to see you get back into Nokia since I came on this site a few months ago and figured out that you were a dedicated ex-employee who got his job dropped for some reason or another higher-up.

But at any rate: I hope where-ever you end up career wise, you find it as enjoyable as Nokia, if not better. For all your efforts, from within Nokia and from the community council, even if I know of them only vaguely, I sincerely thank you.

thanks for your dedication man, i won't say anything about certain companies... i guess stupid management is a common thing.
only takes one dumb comment on your file and, well, maybe it is best to work at a competitor and make it really their loss.
anyways, if you have to leave here one day, it's not gonna erase the work you've done so don't worry about it. we all have to move on sometime.

Sorry to hear you giving up with Nokia, but I do understand that relocation requirement is a bit tough with family...

Are you still considering Nokia Siemens Networks? We are here next to "old" Nokia and no plans to move anywhere...

Thanks Mara. I keep applying to NSN and keep getting rejected for interviews. Seems my one shot was last year and I blew that one, probably by trying too hard.

Anyway you need to join our local MeeGo network: http://www.meetup.com/DFW-MeeGo-Network. Hope to see you at a meeting! And are you up for lunch next Monday?

Well, I felt obliged to post this but wasn't sure how to start...

I haven't been very active for a while as you all have no doubt noticed. As Maemo dwindled in my viability sphere, other projects grew. I always knew there would come a point where I needed to seriously prioritize, since I have a natural (i.e. stupid) tendency to dive into too many pools.

But this isn't a goodbye post. I'm not going to say I'm leaving. I'm not asking that my account be shut down. I'm just saying don't be surprised if I never find my way back here again. But... don't be surprised if I do, either.

Maemo has been great to me. Thanks to this odd little venture, I got to visit Amsterdam, Tampere, Dublin, Las Vegas and London. Even better, I made dozens if not hundreds of friends the world over with whom I am closer than those living physically near to me.

But as someone who struggles with the evil F word (focus), I have to put effort into limiting myself.

As many here have mentioned, maybe this entire community needs to find new focus, too. I had mentioned http://www.umpcportal.com/ but I see this forum keeps going. However, with the increasing viability of Mer, and the approaching Vivaldi tablet, I have decided my "tablet time" would be best spent helping to build a new community around http://opentablets.org. So I approached the team there, they made me a moderator, and off we go.

I have other, related ventures too. As I posted elsewhere, I am redefining my blogging with http://post404.com and am looking for guest as well as volunteer staff writers (please email). I'm also continuing as a Nokia Developer Champion, at least until this Fall, and that comes with many duties as well. Like this group. Finally, I'm organizing a Make event for Dallas this year.

So you can see I have my hands full.

But again: this isn't a goodbye post. Odds are I'll even stop in and moderate (like I did today) now and then as long as I'm needed and able. And I'll check in on old favorite threads when I remember. But for the most part I'm shifting gears, and this forum won't be the prime destination.

I see that council elections are about to be held again and I'll try to remember to vote. I still believe in that old vision, no matter what. Maybe we can replicate it for the Open Tablets community. I hope to see you all there.

Thanks everyone. You have all been awesome.

Well, as is obvious I'm still lingering.

I'm distressed a bit (nothing new) over some continuing arguments about What Next for maemo.org. Coincidentally, I was asked yesterday to write a community-oriented article for Scarlet Motors. maemo.org is referenced, and I believe that some of the points raised are still applicable here-- now maybe more than ever: http://post404.com/2012/10/the-kinder-community/

I approve of the underlying idea in that article. The unfortunate tendency of the human mind to get less flexible the older it gets may have not undermined us too much as hunter-gathering packs and in similar circumstances where straying from what worked well had a high chance of making you dead, and the rewards for curiosity and innovative thought were minimal, but in the modern world, especially when creating or working to improve communities, staying mentally fluid and creative is extremely beneficial.

In the interest of transparency, I want to let everyone know I have been rehired by Nokia.

It is only part-time (and I still have another full time job) but it's something!

Many here will be disappointed to know that the role involves promotion of Windows Phone. It is what it is. But if it helps, I have also been asked by Digia to help establish a Qt community in my area, so the two should even out, right?

Thanks for the heads up, and it's good to know that you aren't laying all your eggs in one sinking ship. Any port in a storm, as they say.
