But they kill the phone signal. I kinda suspected this might happen but I did not want to think about it.
And afaik you cannot open keyboard while in boxwave, right? I wouldn't mind killing part of phone signal if the box would allow me to open keyboard without much hassle.

Yep.
Did not think about this! But I use it just as safe storage, not as day-by-day carry around box. So ...
But same counts for otterbox, too! Or?

Pictures and reviews, e.g. at http://nokiaexperts.com/review-otter...es-nokia-n900/ suggest that keyboard can be opened easily in that case... this makes (or made) otterbox almost perfect case for me...

It's great. As I said above, you can use it while using the phone. Once you've got used to it, you hardly know it's there (except when you stay on the blower too long, it tries to slice your ear in two!).
