Dropped my N9 (PR1.3) and now the screen is broken and not usabel at all. Got a new / used N9 for less money than a replacement screen would have been. So how do I get my data off the old broken phone to the new one? Any suggestions?
Usually, if I plug the phone to an ubuntu pc, the phone asked wether to use as mass storage or something like that. But now I can not confirm that as the touch screen is not working.
I'd be very happy for any useful suggestion.

http://wiki.meego.com/N950/Fixing_MALF_state

Follow instructions on that wiki page till step 7 to access your full device contents...

You can use "dd" to pack your rootfs and userfs partition which you can then restore as is to your new N9 too... EMMC data of course you can transfer out and do a manual transfer into the new n9...

Using "dd" though will put your phone into open mode so if you don't want to use open mode just get your data out from the old N9 but don't use dd to transfer it into the new N9...

JFYI...
Some time back I had similar issue with my N900, which was resolved by using rescue os.

Its for Unix-based systems only so I hope you used a VM on Win7

Did you check maybe your battery was insufficient before trying the chroot?

yes battery was dead in the beggining but I used flasher to recharge and flash it to pr 1.3 ( it was pr 1.2 ) . Now it's around 50% . From wiki the steps are done succesfully but no mass storage is detected .

You mean it doesn't auto-mount or there is no drive detected itself via fdisk etc?

If the former, you've to mount it then and if the latter I'm not too sure on what to do...

One option is to build yourself a custom serial cable, and connect it to tx rx pins (that are under the sim card), use 115200 8n1 (non rts) as connection parameters, and do backup from commandline. (enable hardware serialport with flasher --set-rd-flags=serial-console)

Or find someone who can do it for you. ;-).

Downside to this solution is that there are not that many persons in the world that know how to do it. If your located in Finland then you might be in luck, otherwise odds are that much worse.

And second option, if you manage to get yourself into openmode and can mount root partition, is to make init script that installs vnc-server and you connect to it from your PC.
