how to check if it works properly? do i need to install all the packages in http://marmistrz.net63.net/public/pcre/ ?
dpkg -l *pcre*
sudo gainroot apt-get install libpcre3=6.7* libpcrecpp0=6.7*

I managed to build latest libpcre3. Fremantle has ancient version 6.7, this is 8.30. There are a couple of applications that use it. To find them, just type

Shouldn't brick the N900, as it isn't installed by default.
Update: you may use the unstable branch of my repo if you want to test. WARNING: standard CSSU-devel warnings apply. Disable it straight after testing
