May be, I probably just never saw it. I still have that Symbian sis file lying around though, but there is nothing to run it on.

Jolla Sailfish, The Unlike Qt-Powered Mobile OS

Rumours have it that the first phone would be published before this meet-up, which would top it off. Regardless, we have a very unlike N950 to show around as well!

Mark the date, it's fixed! More details coming closer!
Meet-up will takes place on Monday, May 20, 2013, So we could see the Jolla phone before then

What's the possibility of back porting harmatten or dare I say maemo on to it.
No need to backport anything. Just make it Linux+GNU+QT and completely open, then anyone(right) can design the type of desktop they want.

then we just need similar design features of N900 in the actual device. (HW keyboard, useful buttons, stylus, video watching flip etc)

Everything is wrong about N9 in my mind, to be honest, the tip of the iceberg was when I brought the device on my holiday to watch video on in the airplane. i had to hold the device the whole time as it lacked the simple yet genious flip support on the back of the telephone to tilt the N900 when plaing it on the table. Furthermore I had to skip 2 episodes of the series I was watching, due to invalid filenames, so they were not found in the video player. the terminal of the N9 sucks, so I couldnt correct the names!!

Do you think they understood exactly what your were asking there though?
I posed a similar set of Qns ages ago but the pricks never respond to me any more.
I've been uber critical/harsh one too many times...

Infact, if they were given the functionality of an N900, they'd just end up being more confused (in general). Being honest about it, 90% of what they do is Facebook/Whatsapp. A few use Twitter. A few use Instragram. A few use the web browser (it always surprises me just how little the browser is used). They may occasionally play the latest games (Angry Birds, Draw Something, whatever is the latest flavour of the day). After that, other apps don't really matter. The reality is that a significant proportion of smartphone users would really be just as well served by owning a feature phone. They don't know that of course, so they will sign themselves up to 24 month contracts at $50 a month because they fall for the marketing hype of having the latest Iphone.

As for doing anything productive on a phone, you need only look at the most popular apps for proof that most people have no interest in doing real work on a phone. The trend is always going towards less content, rather than more content. Blogging for example is a dying technology at the moment. Why? Because if you want to make a decent update to a blog, you need to spend at much, much more time than the 20 seconds it takes to write out a Tweet. Even RSS and news apps are being killed by Twitter. Twitter is always first and most users would now rather get an update in 140 characters than having to sit and spend 2-3 minutes reading an article. Instagram has taken things to the next level because it has completely done away with writing anything at all - you just have to upload a photo and share it with your friends.

I understand the irony of what I am saying. The smartphone is essentially dumbing down mobile technology and that the internet will eventually consist of looking at pictures of cats that look like Hitler and reading about what Justin Beiber is doing.
I refuse to want to believe what you are saying, but I know you are right and I am fully aware of reality. Yet I want to deny that to myself in the hope of a better world.

Sad stuff.
