I don't believe they couldn't do speed without more pins, oe atleast without making the connector bigger. Why didn't the A connector grow too? And why wasn't the big b connector killed with fire? Want robustness? Put a removable plastic plug around the socket, don't make two incompatible sockets.

I'd go for microA-B everywhere even on pc's and get over with this mess

have a couple USB3 external discs (w/ µ connector ) as well as a eSATAp disc
since i discovered that in a squeeze i can use the USB2 cables i usually carry around for the NOKIAs to connect the USB discs i'm more then happy with "the brave new world" of USB
even though the performances of USB devices are always heavily dependant on driver & knows what aspects (one of my discs barely makes USB2 speeds in openSUSE but works superfast on other OSes (CentOS or windooooz))
go figure

USB3? Were talking about a phone not a full Linux laptop or similar.

Seriously have people checked if mobile SoC has support for USB3? I doubt the SoC used by Jolla has it.

we hardly know anything about the Jolla device, leave alone the SoC's specs
even though nobody picked it up yet, µUSB3 being designed & available the adoption on a (forward looking) mobile device is only a matter of time.

Jolla is not Samsung. They can't get access to latest hardware. What Samsung deliver in a half year is totally irrelevant in perspective to a small company like Jolla.

They can, but they'd have to charge substantially more than the major players, & then market cleverly to convince buyers why they should pay substantially more for hw that's competitive with the latest top-end handsets. Finally they must throw in a "Other Half" implementation that's not a gimmick, then they'll have attained geek nirvana & have something that has a chance at becoming popular in the mainstream too. But, they're clearly not going this way... I'd be prepared to pay 25% more than the best top-end handsets on the market to ensure I have hw that's competitive with them, but I doubt most other potential customers would, sadly.

25% more than a HTC One would mean firmly into 1000eur territory. Which even if I could afford it, I think that I wouldn't dare carry a 1K phone with me all day.
