Some people are being a little hyperbolic here; You can read the N800 screen in direct sunlight, with large fonts, white on black, and backlight all the way up -- but it's very hard. It's quite readable for web browsing etc. most of the time outside, as long as the backlight is all the way up. Mapping, at least with hybrid maps, is not very readable outside, short of seriously shading eyes and N800 with one hand.

It is bad in daylight, and I'm sure the N810, being transflective, is loads better. But it's not all that unreadable outside.

Me, too. Great screen protector, IMO.

Does that really make a difference?

I don't have any IT yet, but I took my Tapwave Zodiac (PalmOS PDA) and Nintendo DS Lite out in the sun the other day. The Zodiac has a transflective screen and was just as readable outside as inside. Very impressive.

The DS Lite screen, on the other hand, was almost invisible. Does anyone know what type of screen the DS Lite has? If it's the same as the N800 then I would definitely not want an N800.

The only comment I would add is the colors lose saturation when used transflectively - it is pink, not deep red. But everything is as readable as anything I've seen. The only problem I've had is it looks better the closer to directly reflecting the sun, but it will act like a mirror so you don't want to stare at the reflected sun directly. (I don't know of they can do antireflective touch screens).

This sunlight readability sold me on the unit, but it has just gotten better. I was looking for a UMPC or tablet (tuftab) with such a display, but they are several times more expensive.
