Having 'Nokia' on the front would do wonders for adoption though. I expect some European carriers would back it on the name alone.

If it really is a tablet, I'd find that very disappointing, as it will undoubtedly set back improvements to Sailfish as a whole, and the phone related bits / UI specifically.
I guess the rationale would be to get one of the ultra-cheap mid spec tablets that are widely available, change cosmetics slightly, and then sell it at a gigantic mark up.
Sailfish isn't ready for it yet though, and Jolla don't have the manpower to split development like that ... but maybe they need the cash and exposure badly.

Yeah, silly move IMO, got in touch with Stefano & outlined why...
If it's not being done by Jolla, then it's not so bad, overall it's a +ve thing in fact.
So long as it's a half-decent ODM... & implementation (for the price)...
But maybe they've no choice, maybe they're doing the ref. device thing again.
In the hope that 2nd time round, they can finally attract a hw partner...

Yeah ... and then of course it further harms the already bad app situation. Jolla store restrictions haven't been relaxed still, no paid apps, seeming lack of manpower for testing apps .... and existing apps are going to need to be overhauled to work within a tablet UX scheme properly. Another headache for the few brave app developers we do have ...
