since there are people like me who enjoy copying and pasting the shell commands right off the forum, I think it's this, right?

flasher-3.0 -u -F SU-18_2008HACKER_4.2007.50-6_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin
flasher-3.0 -r rootfs.jffs2 -f

Overall, this is a very very promising release. For the two days I've been trying it, it was FAR more stable than even the latest HE 2007 release. The browser seemed faster than I expected from what I'd been reading. The only problem I was having was when using the built-in image viewer to browse images over samba. The "loading image 4/12" notification would pop up, disappear, and pop right back up again in an endless cycle. On internal memory there were no problems though. Mplayer worked just fine with the workaround already posted. Video Center even worked with mediaserv to stream movies, though a bit stuttery without disabling sound. Overall I was prepared to keep this as my main OS though.

But then disaster struck. Installed Maemo Mapper, which appeared to work at first glance. But then while downloading maps, the OS crashed. When it rebooted, after a very short time it crashed again, just sitting there, doing nothing. Auto-connecting was off, and it crashed just sitting there with no input, though it would boot up all the way to the home screen and just sit there before crashing again.

Is there anyway of playing any type of video on this? Avi, mp4 .... anything? The osso mediaplayer does not want to play video (no Codecs) & Mplayer does not work.
The rest of this look good. I think the browser especially is much more stable & marginally faster than the last 2007HE release.

Mplayer *does* work, using a workaround posted elsewhere in this thread. Basically, install mplayer normally (for the dependencies), apt-get uninstall it, dpkg install the package for the 770 from the mplayer garage project page, link a library.

Thanks for guidance (GreySim) but when I try dpkg command I get this error;
dpkg: error processing mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.24.n770_armel.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.24.n770_armel.deb

I did apt-get update prior to dpkg command. Any idea where I am going wrong?

Thanks.

bahbah12: No idea, unfortunately.

Everyone else: My problem seems to have been with Modest. It was just odd timing, because Modest worked perfectly for me as far as I could tell, but then decided to act up randomly while I was running MM for the first time and downloading maps.

@bahbah12: You need first to download the deb and then to install it like that. The command assumes you have the deb in the current dir. And btw, there should be version 25 too.

May have found a bug with the network connection editor:

Take a Wifi connection that works fine (created by saving from a detected WLAN)

Edit its "advanced properties" to change it from a DHCP connection to a fixed IP address.

From there on it doesn't work anymore - fails very early (2/3 icons blinks), with a different message than usual failures (bad parameters or key) that take longer.

Even editing it again (back to DHCP) doesn't make it work again. Only way is delete and re-create.

Very reproducible here - anyone else ?
