Riven is a puzzle game, the first sequel to Myst. If your unfamiliar with either
game, read up here.
On the technical side it is really just a slideshow of static images, ambient
sound and the occassional movie thrown in. It can be controlled solely by
mouse, so it would appear to be a great game for the IT.
The game has been ported to PowerPC and Mac (Leopard). The latter is an
open source project called "Riven X". Unfortunately this port is native to Mac,
sound is done with Core Audio and video with Quicktime. The rest of the port
is fairly straightforward C & C++, according to the author.
I'd love to get into the whole porting business with this project. However I don't own
a Mac and can't test whether the port is even worth all that trouble.
The more pressing concern is that I've never done this before. Can someone
point out a few ressources to me? I really don't know where to start.
