Actually I prefer the think-light (a white LED illuminating the keyboard from the top edge of the display) to a backlit keyboard.

Mobile phones had backlit keyboards (back in the day when they had keyboards) since day one, but finding a laptop with a backlit keyboard even now is a challenge.

It illuminates the keyboard just fine, but unlike backlit keyboard it can be also used for reading papers/books and to illuminate the vicinity of the laptop if needed (can be regulated by changing the angle of the display/lid).
