Soo... just got my N800 yesterday.
As soon as i received it, did an upgrade to os2008, Ver 2.2007.51-3 to resolve the power on problem that most people are having on this board.

However, i started noticing some problem right off the bat.
- Applications are not quitting properly, a prompt came up asking to close the application. If you click OK, the application just stayed there and will never quit. This is happening mostly on Nokia Applications (App mgr, browser, skype, media player, file mgr)
- Browser crashed very frequently - when loading pages or adding bookmarks. Same symptoms as above.
- Applications always fail to install if i have an SD card in the external slot. This is a non-sdhc 2GB card.

I did a reflash several times and issues always come back the minute i start using the device after a reflash.

What aggravates me the most if the application instability on this. Do i just have a bad unit or something??

Can anyone share any insight on these problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've has no real problems with my N800 (other than a touchscreen calibration at the bottom of the screen), but since I've installed 51-3 I've had numerous Application Manager crashes and a roboot loop...

All I can say these problems do not sound "normal". If you have a chance I'd recommend exchanging the unit.

Sounds distinctly like the internal card is corrupted, explains just about everything if you're using swap. Format it and get back to us.

Seconded. I recently had my internal memory card become corrupt--while using virtual memory--and it caused similar crashes and some truly bizarre behaviour.

Please do give the General's suggestion a try before you go to the trouble of contacting Nokia for a repair or replacement.

I have nothing on the internal SD slot if that's what you're talking about. Unless you're talking about a different thing? I don't even have virtual memory on.

Every time i put a 4gb sdhc in my N800, it could never be recognized. It just said memory card corrupted and need to be repaired. If i tried to format it using the file manager, it would get stuck at the "Formatting memory card" bar for a while and the whole device stopped responding.

The whole application crash occurs even when there is no SD card at all on all slots.

Did you buy it from the Nokia store? Do you have the receipt? Is it less than 7 (maybe 14?) days since the date of purchase? If yes... then you may be able to exchange it there... (I do not know your store return policies... but these are pretty common amongst most retailers...)

Otherwise, your only hope is to return to Nokia and wait...

Didn't buy it from Nokia store, unfortunately. Bought it from my friend who decided he is not using it as often as he'd like to.

Bad luck... Maybe that's the reason why he has not used it that often any more...

Maybe it has been dropped or something, and now there is some bad contact or bad solder joint causing these issues? Do you see any pattern if the tablet is cold or warm, if it works any better?

You can check if the tablet is still under warranty from Nokia web site... (sorry, no link but you should be able to find it...) They will ask your tablet SN (WiFi MAC address) and can tell if it is less than 1 year old since day of manufacturing...
