I would wait how successful the guy on Twitter is with his piece and if it is flashable, I'd go for it. Until then, I'd stick to Stskeeps's advice

EDIT:

I very much disagree. I have used Android quite extensively on both tablet and phone (more on the tablet, actually) and while it's not great on the phone, I can still understand the appeal there. On the tablet, it's a whole other story - it's the worst tablet OS I've ever seen. Maybe it is acceptable for people who have never used any other tablet OS, but for anyone who has tried an iPad or webOS 3.0 (and I'm sure SailfishOS, BB Playbook and Windows would be similar in that sense from what I've seen), Android was - and still is unless they changed something radically over the last year - pretty much unusable as a tablet OS.

Trust me, I gave it a shot every few days, but it was too frustrating to use.
Are you okay? Which android are you talking about? Which OEM? 4.. Or 5.. Or maybe 6.0.1?
I have an iPhone 6plus and note 5 edge, and note 5edge is way better, IMHO

But I assumed mscion's comment was facetious.

Sailfish makes me feel like that quite often. Much as I like it and prefer its UI to others, I rather use my daughter's Android tablet when it really matters, such as for typing this response (absolutely impossible in a Sailfish browser due to the ridiculous lack of copy&paste). Sailfish is nice but still very much experimental.
Well, you assumed correctly! And I also agree that it really depends on your needs. Whether it is the UI, hardware, apps, certain functionality, cost and so forth. For, me, hackablilty is very important. I don't know exactly how to describe the feeling, but when I successfully make a neat modification to my phone I really feel like I own it (hopefully that makes sense to somebody). I had a lot of fun modifying my N900, indeed those were the good old days, but after the Elop/N950 fiasco and Jolla phone not getting data in US making it pretty useless for me (except for when I brought it Switzerland with me last year), there hasn't been much to play with. So most of the time that I've spent modifying phones to my liking has been on the Android side. Further, companies like Samsung have been real good about making software and kernel available. Plus the hardware is quite good. So I've had fun modifying apps and the kernel on android. When the Jolla tablet was announced I was pretty excited because I had use for it and it would be a matter of time till I start playing with what's under the hood. But I guess that's not going to happen now. So that bad news for now is that there is nothing out there with reasonable up-to-date hardware, that is gnu\linux based (not the modified version found android), and really usable in the US. The good news is that Android is not as bad as many folks make it out to be, the hardware is excellent and it is fairly easy to hack to the point that you can do most things other OS can do if needed.

I'd almost be willing to bet that 4.4 is installed, but you can update to at least Lollipop. I've yet to see Marshmallow for x86 though... yet, I will also admit that I've yet to look.

What?
Now its 50/50. Either the Taobao sellers or Jolla are talking BS.

I can only say WTH?

Why would it need to be shipped to Finland? SailfishOS for tablet is flashed in factory with a master eMMC chip getting copied to multiple and then assembled.

Why? Becouse Jolla took our money and building the OS rather then use the master eMMC chip and assembled devices.

So now we have to try anything to get sail running on it. And Jolla is helping.

There's a lot more to this than we were told in the last blog post. I don't believe that the components to make the tablet are no longer available - they were taking pre-orders just last autumn as they prepared to go into full production. We're also told that the factory have only made 540 more, when we see thousands on taobao, but they've been reflashed with (a full hw adaptation of) android, but can be reflashed back to sailfish via finland?

I think the manufacturer were holding the tablets to ransom, and that's why the resolution took so long after Jolla got more cash. They wanted even more money to flash them back to SFOS, and Jolla can't afford it. Now they realise that we really would rather have Sailfish, they're trying to screw us too. The mechanism they offer suggests that Jolla were prepared to reflash the tablets they'd already crapped on, because they assume they'll do it now.

All these accusations of scams towards Jolla, and it's the factory that's been scamming all along. They're scum, looking to take advantage of desperate people. If no-one showed interest in the taobao tablets, they'd probably be on their way to Jolla already.

This is the ultimate project scam. jolla scams backers...then the factory scams jolla, jolla scams lastu and now factory tries to scam consumers

I know it was a scam!

Jolla are protecting them, trying to resolve the situation. The factory just want to make as much money as possible out of the situation. I'm quite sure who are the scum here. But keep blaming Jolla for everything - it's the easiest way.
