Reflash only a kernel, it should update the charge table (or however it is called). For some reason I had to reflash it several times, if I'm not mistaken.
Another thing you may run into is that everything works ok, but bmestat defines battery condition as UNKNOWN. I installed a new battery a few months ago and have the same output of bmestat, so it's kinda normal, I guess.

No, decoupling only makes sense with battery inside device!
