that is one way...
natural decomposition of a whale ...if it is buried on a beach is more advantageous to the local environment and what organisms that would feed off it...though.

In the case of non starting start ups occupying space here...
turning a blind eye and doing nothing about their corpses everywhere here...is not an option. Just a constant in-the-face-reminder.

Deleting or burying them is not an answer either.

and I think exploding the these dead non starting start up corpses is redundant..
Since ...unlike the beached whale in america ...
Exploding dead non starting startups ...we are already covered in the exploding mess twice then.
The 1st time from its failure (in the case of the neo it has been multiple times it has come back..only to explode yet again)
the 2nd time exploding it on purpose to rid ourselves of it.

I can only speak for myself when I say...
I have already been blanketed enough times by perpetually exploding neo dead whale debris to last me a few lifetimes...
without going to all the fuss of doing it yet again...
on purpose

The Neo subforums and accompanying posts just need to be moved to the Archives...for whatever possible pertinent data it has and as a reminder.

No more Michael Bay 'splosions necessary...
Robot Chicken did it best anyway.

Reaction to endsormeans man do you think this is normal to modify mikrochips and doing handwork on mm-s? That would need special skills, tools and total engagement to technology... We buy hardware and use them normally not manufacturing it
That's a sad world where people are recommended to go with the flow and use large rectangular phablets with capacitive touchscreens and pre-installed Android just because a start-up failed.

Yes, I have put a lot of faith into Neo900. No, I am not intending to curse Neo900 or ask for a refund - as stated above, majority of start-ups finish like this - I am intending to ask for any and all possible documentation to remain in existence, on a safe server, and/or many computers, even if it is not feasible to manufacture due to lack of some ancient components.

I am hoping for Leste to become fully usable as an everyday operating system - not just on OMAP5 and Nokia N900 - but also on Fxtec, Pyra, Droid 4, and whatever other phones, tablets or laptops become targets.

And then maybe Neo900 can be revived - no necessarily physically compatible with N900, lack of mechanical parts is daunting - and with a different processor? - I reckon it sounds like STEP2, a little? I still hope for it to be small, pocket-able, protecting privacy, tinkering-oriented - and running Leste.

Of course, funding would be a problem. Of course, I personally don't expect such a project to start until and unless all Neo900 pre-orders can be, at will of customer, either refunded (no ill will intended) or converted into vouchers for new device (for persevering optimists).

And I am guessing that everybody needs a break and re-charge - a few years, perhaps, to play with devices that do exist, and reassuring ourselves that it is possible to make open-source devices and not fail - and then in the future, a few years later, we will see what "modern smartphones" will look like. Google advertises on-board (off-line) speech-to-text as a new cool thing, as if pocket-sphinx (and other speech-to-text software) didn't exist ages ago!

Thank you. Best wishes.

Why do folks look to extremes that are out of feasible range of an individual or small team, when they aren't necessary?

In the first instance, I mention modding...to achieve some of the desired perks that we enjoyed with the n900.
Such as a physical keyboard mod to an existing device that doesn't have one. There are plenty of examples of mods exactly like that ...in detail...in our forum here. And any one individual can accomplish it.
Since much of the work that was done for the neo was on a souped-up beagleboard, undoubtedly resistive screens can also be used ..albeit that would take a higher degree of learning and understanding to implement.
Such simpler mods as those are what I meant.
Not serious work as szilveszter.domotor mentioned...that is in essence bordering on a complete rebuild with the needed skills of virtually the entire n900 nokia team.

Likewise it is such extremism as wiki's "all or nothing" approach ..
and supposing that I am endorsing that "people are recommended to go with the flow and use large rectangular phablets with capacitive touchscreens and pre-installed Android just because a start-up failed"
And that yet again ...
the approach is to hope or pin hopes or more monies on yet another neo attempt
Both extreme views of achieving a simple goal.

In the end the only rational and sane thing that has been said thus far is what I have repeatedly endorsed for a very very very long time.
Years in fact.

that we needed a shackle-free maemo operating system that can be thrown onto virtually any device.
eventually someone ...some corp. ...(even some start up ) will start producing a device that comes close or better than the n900 was.
In the mean time we can utilize a shackle-free maemo on available devices until then, thus keeping maemo software, ideals and community alive until then.
Even better I suggested that to evolve past the limits and extinction threshold of a mobile os ...that we should aim as well for a shackle-free 86_64 maemo pc os ..then we can wait out the long years comfortably with little turmoil to the os and needed iteration changes as what goes through the generations of mobile os in the same span of time.

It is called bigger picture thinking.
Survivalist thinking.

Thankfully the maemo Leste team did get what I was trying to say about the whole issue...whether they heard me or not ...is not relevant...
they saw the exact same writing on the wall as I did years ago..
.and we have better than a life raft now.
We have a higher survival percentile chance than without Leste.

Now all that is needed is enough people to help pull in the 3rd party catalogs full of software that may disappear ...as I have also warned ..

For myself I am getting weary of Talk Startup dot Org ...
and I am likewise weary of folks trying to find the hardest and most likely to fail methods of doing things first ...
Before sitting down and thinking about it.

Well "Happy"...
or is it "Todd"?

I believe it is quite possible that a poor masquerade for a spammer ...has no validity here to say anything .
"Get thee behind me Spammer!"
