It's been a while now...is there still no working Signal messenger app for Sailfish OS?

Whisperfish still works, though it is not maintained any more..

Thanks, but "WARNING - DO NOT USE THIS CLIENT" (from Guthub) means I will not be trying that.

As far as I understand there is still a port that is not abandoned on gitlab.

I tried this built and it did install but it did not start for me.

Do you have already some key files?

In its current state, it only tries to read the relevant keys that are already created by the Go-Whisperfish version.

However, after copying config.yml from a working installation, Signal would call me with the code as expected. So, on a fresh installation (0.5.1), create /home/nemo/.config/harbour-whisperfish/config.yml with the following (change your tel. nr. obviously)
Code:
tel: "+xxxxxxxxxx"
server: https://textsecure-service.whispersystems.org:443
rootCA: ""
proxy: ""
verificationType: voice
storageDir: /home/nemo/.local/share/harbour-whisperfish/storage
unencryptedStorage: false
storagePassword: ""
loglevel: debug
userAgent: Whisperfish
alwaysTrustPeerID: false
Haven't tried whether setting verification type to sms does anything, will that work?
I tried this with sms instead of voice and it looks it is working (with some bugs). If the gitlab version is at least usable, pls. comment.

Old thread, related discussion: I have a question about using the Android app of Signal Messenger on Sailfish. I have installed AlienDalvic Control. And within the settings for that app-->App Permissions-->SMS, it has 0 of 1 apps allowed for SMS. However, under default apps it shows Signal as the SMS app. How can I turn that off? I ask because I worry that is causing at least some of my problems. There is no way, within Android, to assign a Sailfish app as the default app. So it seems like this asks for trouble. And I am having them. At this point if someone sends me an SMS or MMS, Signal Messenger stops communicating. And I have to go into Sailfish settings-->Utilities-->Restart Home Screen in order to get it working again. This is not great.

At least in pure Android you control this from Signal app's settings. Unfortunately, I don't know if this is valid with Alien Dalvik.

Is Signal usable with Alien Dalvik? Or is there still that sms issue?

Whisperfish is making progress, but there is still lots of work ahead.
