I'd just like to point out that John Cage made a piece of music that is exactly 4m 33s of silence.

And there's probably other, similar examples.

I see nothing wrong with it. I didn't look into Salvatore Garau's arguments, but those of John Cage are interesting and thought provoking, and valid.

If my city bought something like this for a million bucks I might be cross with my city - but not the artist. If they manage to sell that for 18.000 credits, well, good for them. I'm sure the buyer wasn't duped into anything and knew exactly what he was getting.

Super inteligent aliens do most likely not communicating with sounds. And even if we survive another thousand years we'll most likley not use sound as the main communication. It's simply to too slow.

The sound of silance.

Actually the reason sound communication via "talking" is slow is the frequencies and modulation used by humans.
There's plenty to improve... (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Fire...the_Deep#Tines for some insights )

And, as always, there is an evolutionary explanation for that. We have evolved to be alert to the sounds of approaching predators: footsteps, a snapped twig, rustling of leaves... and these come in what we now call the "audio range":



Speech came much later, by which time our auditory system had been fully adapted and thus speech had to fit within the same range.

Assuming you mean direct person-to-person communication, not over distance?
OTOH, some teenagers must by superintelligent aliens, I saw them standing together, communicating via Instagram.

There is evidence somewhere. But I leave that to you to find it
