Good write-up . . . I loved the iPhone interface - just hated the Phone bit. The iTouch is the way to go though I haven't tried one out

But like sleepkyng said - I bought the N8x0 because it was as close to a mini-computer as I could get. The i***** simply aren't. I'm not exactly sure what that means at the end of the day - I enjoy hacking away at it; I enjoy the open nature and the community around it. I do like devices that just work; but there's always this niggling part in the back of my head that wants my washing machine to be a toaster

And I hate to start a comparison thread again since these Apple vs Nokia threads seem to go that way - but ever since getting a 3 SkypePhone, the bluetooth connectivity has been a must for web surfing on the go. That and the iGo keyboard for proper typing.

But yeah - can't get over the lush OS-X interface...makes me _wish_ all maemo developers can take a week or two out of their busy schedules and think up a smooth, viable interface that rivals it.

At the moment I can only see that interface through Canola. Now that plugin architecture has been exposed, I can SEE a time when Canola becomes THE host interface for the N*** series with provision of functionality far beyond what it is now.

I can imagine plugins such as email, maemomapper/navit, carman, the up'n'coming last.fm, a camera app ( I know this one will get there ), sketch, notes, calendar, to-do, webkit, scientific calculator, ... maybe even remote control like this:

imho then and only then will the Apple boys think twice about the setup.

there is mobilechm for iphone/touch you need to jailbreak though. I have no idea how it compares to FBreader.

for video conversion to iphone/touch there are tons of apps that do it (total video converter is one for example)

I think an Ipod Touch with JoikuLight (N95) could be a good combo for surfing where wifi is not available.

Though I have to say I do enjoy tethering n800 via n95.

I am a total apple guy and took a leap when I decided to buy an N800. I get frustrated with the instability of some of the applications and OS 2008 but I don't regret having purchased it. The forums and the support are really great. Itis truly a mini computer and it seems that the bugs are getting worked out every day.

I really hate devices that cannot multitask. That is why i ve been liking nokia since 6630 which could multi task some 5 years ago. Obviously it slows down the device. but hell i am not going to buy any device that does'nt do it.

I could care less what people think about MY n800 or MY iphone: whether they love it, hate it, and they can spend the whole day typing mean-spirited comments THEN getting taking it all personally defending their favored platform... or whatever.

But what I hope ppl do (Especially the from the Nokia side) is be like Vikings (or pirates) and steal\plunder whatever that's good from the other camp to improve the their platform.. rather than being self righteous and shut yourself up from a good source of ideas.

Benz145

These devices are not even the same ballpark.

No Bluetooth just wifi.
I love apple takes other people stuff and puts there name on it. Come on they took nokia device and made part of it better. PART...

Why would I want a device with internal only men? How many ipods break. Everyone I know who had an ipod had to by a new one less then one year becuase they always break.

Thats a fact too. 10 people I know all had to replace there ipods in some way by design. Batteries fail and cost you 60$+ to get a new one. N800 battery 4$ on ebay brand new.

Stop comparing the units since they are not in the same pall park.

Intel is the only one who said MIT. A new type of device "stolen from Nokia"
But they dont clain they made it up they just said we will be creating CPU's for the new MITs.

iTouch is a «big city» device. In mile away, who cares about shiny ui or zoom feature, if your device is dead?) Who cares about capacitive touch input if your IM can't work without wi-fi spot?) As "internet device" NIT beats everything in a range with one hit. As a mediaplayer iTouch is hardly, very hardly better than NIT.

Sorry, but if almost everyone requests that the ITs get something, then it obviously is needed, whatever it is.

What's needed is common sense

In that case I think we're all out of luck

Seriously though, I kind of agree with the people above. Even though the original post is very well written, do we need more comparisons? For some people, the apple-products are going to be better, for some people, the nokia offerings are better.

They're all awesome pieces of technology that surpass everything I dreamt of as little as three or four years ago.

I can't even imagine what delicious goodness is about to hit us over the next few years as apple and nokia and others show us the next few iterations on these themes.
