Hi,
I tried googling for an opensource alternative for Bloomberg terminal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomberg_Terminal

I could only find very little useful information. In theory one should be able to extract information from the website and be able to display to provide it in a more formatted way useful for traders (which I am not).

I know I am being ultra vague, but may be someone who has used a Bloomberg Terminal can shed more light on this. Is it possible to provide an alternative to Bloomberg Terminal for opensource (and ofcource Nokia ITs, then they could be called Information Tablets !!!)

How about someone who coded for a Bloomberg Terminal.

There's no way possible, period, to grab information from the bloomberg website, or any website, and provide what the terminal provides. BBerg's information is highly proprietary and they won't let you have access to without their software.

Possible to do something similar but only with free t+15 data. See here for some background: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/5885 (Squeak Smalltalk but easily done in other languages)

It might be more reasonable to hope for a port of Medved QuoteTracker, in that it is free -- you pay a low $7/mo fee to get the ads removed -- and, more important, it accepts hundreds of different data feeds.

OTOH, when I used to trade actively, I had an array of 3 monitors, each 19" or larger, to use it effectively. It's a bit hard to imagine it on a Tablet!
