Yes, the problem was that I was not able to even type the password. The dialog saying "Paring failed" comes up instantaneously.
However, I just found the answer with some more surgical searching:

This forum is great. So many knowledgeable people. I followed the instructions there, and pairing worked as advertised. I've got my keyboard back!
Thanks so much to mhoye!
I set the keyboard into pairing mode. I go to the Bluetooth control panel and add a new device. "Think Outside Keyboard" shows up in the device list. I click on it, and get the "Pair with device" dialog, with a passcode. At this point, you're supposed to click OK and then, using the keyboard, type in the displayed passcode. However once I click OK I immediately a "Pairing failed" dialog, and have no time to type in the passcode.
I've tried various things, like typing in the passcode before pressing OK, typing it in after getting the "Pairing failed" dialog, etc. Nothing seems to work.
Anybody have any ideas? I've seen this question posted elsewhere, but with no answers... Is there some configuration I can change somewhere to help out?
Thanks very much in advance. I'd like to stick with OS 2008, but the keyboard makes some things so much easier.
