The card should work with no problem. The 2GB model may be a little limiting for storage, but it should be OK, I guess. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get programs to run from an SD card under Linux, so you'll need to install everything to the SSD, using the SD card for data. You might consider waiting for the 900 model, which will have a 9 inch screen, and might be better for you.

Installing apps to the SD card on linux is really easy. You just need to mount the sd card as your /usr/bin directory and then all apps are automatically installed to it. It really is just a matter of changing one line in /etc/fstab (there is probably also a way to do it graphically, but wheres the fun in that?)

Hey guys! Thanks for all of your criticisms, advice, and knowledge. Ive been contemplating an EEE pc for months now, and still havent purchased one because of the 900 model coming out. I just really wish a big box store had an EEE PC demo unit. Supposedly Best Buy was going to begin selling the EEE in stores but of the 3 stores in my area that I went to, not one person even knew what I was talking about. Geek Squad drones were all over me asking what I was looking for and I kept telling them the ASUS EEE PC 4G Surf and they were stunned. Like a deer in headlights. Just my story.

I am currently working with a client who purchased the 8g. Could not get his verizon usb 727 aircard working. I talked to the "linux guy" at asus and he told me that taiwan(home office) is not supporting newer kernels and all work was being put to the 900 series. Basically my guy is stuck with 2.6.18 i think it was. So we decided to put ubuntu on it. the guy at assus recommended using a distro other the xandros because of its "highly modified kernel". my experience with the xandros os on eeepc is not a good one. it is very difficult to modify and get newer hardware to work. I would get a laptop.

If you want to learn how to make the Eee work for you, visit EeeUserForum.com. Someone there has made just about everything work, and most of it is posted on the wiki. If you know what you're doing, you can get most anything to work with the Eee. Asus tech support is pretty much at the level of all tech support, meaning useless. I don't recall ever getting any real help from any tech support drone, for any hardware or software.

You haven't tried enough tech support places. My estimate is that 10% of tech support people know what they are about.

If my stumulus check comes ok, I might be in the market for an asus eee myself.

If you don't mind Windows, the X series is, imo, great. I've had 4, all bigger than what they now are, but all < 3 lbs 4 oz, I think. In fact, my main computer is an X31, my girlfriend's is an X23, and I still have a spare X22 (on which I'm considering putting Linux). All have been Win2k or XP, alll worked great.
