Read the thread, pay attention. This isn't exactly a giant logical leap.

That came out significantly more sarcastic than I meant it to be. What I meant was that it's a pretty straightforward prediction based on a lot of simple and fairly obvious stuff—there's not a lot of uncertain logical leaps involved. I've explained my own reasoning a couple times now here and elsewhere, which is why I recommend reading the thread in entirety.

On an unrelated note, anybody else think we hit the ceiling of usefulness here 10 or 15 pages ago?<_<

For the N900, I'd fix the screen bandwidth issues and include a 3D accelerator so we could get nice, smooth effects in the OS. I'd also upgrade the CPU and RAM, but much of this could be accomplished with a new SoC. (The OMAP3530 looks really nice, especially with it's power saving automatic idle function.) Other than that, I'd keep that same general design as the N810. (Though with dual SD slots like in the N800.) On a side note, it would be nice if Nokia offered a USB On-the-Go cable with the device.

Well, with the OMAP3, there's actually nothing to fix or add. It'll work fine out-of-the-box (as it were) for Nokia. They just need to ship the right drivers and libraries.

The OMAP35xx series is a lower-production run higher ball-pitch version of the OMAP34xx series. We'll be getting the OMAP34xx (more specifically, almost certainly the OMAP3430). Of note, we already have the auto-idle with the N8x0.

I would be happy with a scroll wheel in the side of the device and a built-in PIM suite that replaced the current "contacts" and sync'd with google apps/ evolution (GPE integrated into the current contacts would be great).

for a wish list:
more than 256MB of Flash storage. This stuff is cheap now and 256MB seem a bit lean.
More RAM.

Not to cast a wet blanket over this, but I for one am not especially eager to see a model 900, though it is inevitable. It would be cool indeed, BUT... Given Nokia's track record with the 770/800, their apparent market strategy is to abandon older products to force consumers into expensive upgrades. All of us happy 800 owners might find themselves cast into the wilderness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of old software.

I have not seen my list in a single post, so I want to be sure the Nokia execs that set the priorities for the software can see this in one place.

Let me preface this by expressing my disappointment in Nokia on the N770/800/810.
They built in Google Talk with a nifty pop-out camera on my 800...and shopped for the noisiest cam they could find!
They added a Contacts app with no way to sync it with ANYTHING!
Same for the ToDo
And Dates
And Notes.
I see all over the ITT forums that the IT isnt a PIM. Of course it isnt. Nokia made sure of that by teasing us with half baked apps that end up being more trouble that they are worth. Why have the apps there at all???
They give it a nifty media player - and cripple its video playback?
They had a2pd support in OS2007 from what I have seen in the forums, but nothing but a hack they dont even help with for the updated OS2008??
It isnt a word processor, or any other office suite type device either. No it isn't, because someone who can make it a priority wont.
And it has HWR. It is the worst I have ever seen, so much so that most dont even use it!
Here is the bottom line for my rant. If Nokia management isn't going to make quality apps for PIM, cam, HWR, or office suite a priority, then dont waste our time on the N900 with the garbage that is part of the current OS. Same for hardware. If you wont put in a cam with a reasonable level of quality, then just dont put one in! A Corvette with a Harley motor sucks, and calling it a Corvette will never change that.

So, my list is this
A Quality PIM, or NOTHING for PIM features
A Quality cam, or NO CAM
Quality HWR, or NO HWR
Quality Office Suite, or NOTHING
You get the idea I hope....
Do it right, or dont do it at all!
The N900 with a rockin browser and an fm radio is what it seems you want to build, so fine, build that, but do it WELL!

I love the N800 I have, but the half-baked apps are an insult to all of us, and you developers are to be hailed as heros for putting up with the boneheads above you!

I haven't looked through all the pages. But if you said the prediction came from this thread itself, I won't be too optmistic yet.

No, I'm saying the prediction comes from some very logical thinking, a few choice hints here and there and just plain keeping your eyes open. Like I said, read the thread, pay attention. . . .

Besides, what secret information do you have?

I ask again, what's everybody's fetish with bundled Nokia stuff? We know it's pretty much required to suck by design so why do people seem to want so much more of it? :/
