Ok guys heres the deal:

I have a N800 with OS2008 installed on the internal 4GB SD card (one ext2/ext3 partition) with about 1.2GB used, and rest is free space.

I have bought a N810 - how do I clone the 4GB SD card and move it to the internal 2GB of the N810????

Any help would be much appreciated! BTW I have access to openSUSE/Linux OS on my PC so I can read the 4GB card in my PC.

I'm trying to clone the whole operating system and move it to the N810.

I can copy my files etc. easily.

I wounder however if a DD command would work if I have both the 4GB SD card and the N810 plugged in?

Need someone with a little more knowledge for this one!

I use acronis true image (purchased and delievered over the internets) to backup the sd card's entire os image to my windows box. After I install a new program, or update my personal menu just as I like it, I copy the new image. That way if anything goes wrong, I have various versions of my tablet in the wings. Flashing a backedup image from my computer to a new card is also very easy with acronis.

Somewhere fanoush gave some instructions on how you can backup your n800's flash without a thirdparty app that costs $. But for the ease and simplicity, the $30 I paid for acronis was well worth it (to me).

Does not matter now guys as I accidently deleted my 4GB memory card!!! :-(
Thank god it only had the OS and apps and not my files.

Anyway, what you can do to clone it is to create the partions etc. on the device (N810) and when it comes to clone the OS using the tar command mount both sd card and the N810 onto your PC and run the command from there.

Sorry to hear about your card.

Perhaps you could write up a step-by-step of the solution you mention?

Thanks mate.

I was sooooo gutted!! I checked my SD card for errors as it was not copying properly, it checked it and I was trying to clean the N810 memory and bam! Deleted the SD card instead!!!

been there, done that, only i ended up formating the wrong partition while getting a shower.

as in, planning to head out to a party, had a partition that was acting up (either bad controller or bad file system) entered the format command and header for the shower while it was doing its thing, came back out and found it had formated the one with the os, email and all user settings on

lets just say i was heavy on the bottle that night...
