Hi all, I'm looking for ideas about what's up with my N810. I am able to access the internet from my home wireless router and pretty much all the other places I go that have open or WEP wireless.
There is a local bar which I frequent which has open wireless. I had some problems initially getting a connection there, but eventually did get a connection and was able to use the internet fully. I suspect there was a problem with their router the first time, because I fooled around with their cable connections and was able to connect. Every time I have been back, however, I have been unable to connect to the internet there. The N810 does connect up to their router and seems to have a good connection. When I try to access the internet it just runs awhile and then says that it is unable to connect to the server.
I know the bar's router is getting through to the internet, as I and others are able to access it on laptop computers. The RSS reader on the N810 seemed to update as well, but no connection to server when I tried to open a webpage or access my HAVA player. I think something in the N810 is causing the glitch, but I just can't figure out what it is. I would like to be able to use the N810 there, and I'm also afraid that I might start having the problem other places (i want to take it with me on a trip soon), so I'd like to figure out what the problem is. Any ideas, anyone???

There's one local site where I have the same problem. What you can try is to go into connection settings and turn off power saving mode. (You should add that site to the list of known access points so that you have something to edit.) Some of the more lousy access points have poor or non-existing power saving mode support and this can give the symptoms you described.

Thanks TA-t3,
I guess my next question is how to do that? I went to tools-settings-connection, but all that has is "home page address", "use default home page" and "enable automatic redirection". I can't find anything about power saving modes in the entire N810. By the way, should I "enable" the "automatic redirection"? Thanks again!

Ah, now there's a sight.

Have you upgraded to the latest firmware? The reason I ask is because I used to have problems like this ALL the time. When I upgraded to Diablo, I rarely run into issues like these now.

The other issue could simply be the router. My Linksys router was wacky until I upgraded the firmware --- my laptops had no issue, but was SUPER slow for my n800 --- I had to disable power-saving for it to work properly. Prior to that, I had a Belkin router which did not play well with Linux --- also super slow, but there was no firmware upgrade. Thus, that's why I have the Linksys.

Click in the wifi statusbar miniicon, a menu will open, then choose settings, then a dialog will open, click in the button labeled connections, there you go; add a new connection for the bar's wifi, in the last dialog of the edit connection wizard there is an advanced settings button, it is there.

Thanks maacruz, I found it and I'll give it a try next time iI'm in that Bar.
This may be a separate problem, but one message I keep getting is "Redirected Loop". I don't know what that is, but it won't let me open websites. It says potential causes are: "Blocking cookies" or "Misconfigured server" How does one fix that? Thanks in advance....

Ah, that sounds like you're trying to do it from the browser menu.. I should have said that I was talking about the tools->control panel selection in the UI menu, not the browser. Try looking there.

It is a different problem. You have to enable cookies when you get that error, it is a "stupid web design problem".
Cookie handling is configured in the browser menu->Tools->Settings->Security and privacy

Thanks maacruz, but that doesn't seem to change anything, I already have cookies enabled. I got the message and followed your suggestion. I tried putting it in "ask first" mode and "cookies enabled" mode. No change, I still get the same message. It only happens on some websites, for instance nokia.com/OS2008.
Another question, I did a firmware update about a month ago. I now have version 4.2008.36-5. Is that current? Do I have to do something else to have Diablo? Should I install something else?

You can clean the browser's cache and stored cookies and see if that helps.

That is the last diablo release, so you are current.
