It's under "alternatives", because, theoretically, we don't need right-click in Maemo apps.

I wonder if you can implement this using xbindkeys, the system I'm using for Easy Debian.

Maybe bind to the "keydown" event, and if there's a tap (mouse click), then do right-click. If there is no tap/click, then "keyrelease" triggers the menu...

Yes, you're right, that looks awesome, although after checking /etc/keylaunchrc I notice that the behaviour for the menu key is completely changed. On press, it changes the mouse button order to "3 2 1" and on release it sets them back to the normal "1 2 3".

This means the menu key would only work as a mouse button switcher, since it no longers display the application menu, which is not really a problem for me since I don't use the button to bring the menu.

But then, it didn't quite work for me out of the box, the mouse buttons are definitely swapped, but the 3rd button doesn't show the context menu by default, but at least I know it's "pressing a different button" as I tested it with xev.

Now if I only knew of a way to show the context menu on that particular event...

Just for the record, I'm testing this on a diablo N800, but technically it's the same as in chinook, at least the .deb packages are the same on the vivaphp repository, both in the chinook and diablo lists.

When applying this trick, you can have the usual menu function by pressing shift+menu.

The N800 doesn't have a hard shift key. Am I missing something?

I feel very strongly about this feature and would like to see the discussion resumed. If I was able to right click with one of the N800 keys plus a finger tap then I think I could get rid of my home computer. Is there anyone still working on this? I noticed that the links to download Anunakin's ported software are dead.

If I may expand and rant a little, would there be a way to intuitively when said hardware key is pressed and a tap made, (with finger because my goal is no stylus) to "search" a small user configurable radius, of where the N800 thinks the user tapped, and "find" the nearest link? This may be extremely useful for taps (left clicks) as well. I love my N800, and all the things I can do with it, while simultaneously cursing the things I think it should do, but doesn't. If there is anything I can do to help get these worked on let me know, but I am not a programmer/developer so I am limited in my abilities.

buhao: what application(s) are you trying to use?

I ask because if you can find a GTK equivalent, you can use tap-and-hold right-click, which is why I haven't bothered with this much. I have things like Firefox and OpenOffice using tap-and-hold for right-click context menus, and so getting a right-click hack hasn't been very important to me.

the thing about tap-and-hold is that sometimes the screen see a hold as a double-tap...

Qole: Thanks for the reply. I would like for one of the hardware keys and a tap to register a tap and hold, but specifically in the web browser. I tend to open up several pages and let them load while I read other ones.

Also, is it possible to configure so that when the option of "Open in a new window" is chosen from the context menu, that it doesn't automagically switch to the new window, which will be blank anyway because it has to render the page. I am generally tapping a link because I am interested in learning more about what I am reading, and not because my attention span is very short and I want to move on. If I was ready to move on I would generally forgo the context menu and just tap the link.

Any ideas on tapping "guessing" a user specified radius? my finger is by no means accurate enough to tap on, for example, the page number links at the bottom of forum pages.

To summarize, what I think would make the internet tablet, be it a n800 810 770, is a way to make taps and tap and-n-holds more usable with my fingers. A lot of times when I try to tap-n-hold the n800 thinks I am dragging the web page. I prefer to leave the stylus out of it. I know that the iphone/ipod touch has a capacitive touch screen which helps to accomplish this, but the iphone is so much more useless to me. Isn't there some way to do similar things with software?

Thanks for responding. What a great community and forums. You have no idea how many times I have been able to solve the problems I have had with the help of all of you out there.
