Hi guys.. I must be missing something important here.
I have just tried this install and have ended up with the n810 stuck trying to do the md5 calculation.
Further investigation seems to suggest that I'm out of space on the root partition.
I setup the 8GB card using pd with 512 partition 1 (FAT), 6.6 GB Partition 2.
I don't know why the install is happening on / rather than on /media/mmc2 but I guess the root partition isn't big enough and I'll have to reboot into the internal card and try this all again.
I got the size information from another post talking about partitioning the flash memory.. but did I get this wrong?

Thankyou so much for this advice and code its all up end working now.
One minor thing I've found is that some windows are too big to see and control and they don't resize. For example the kmail account setup and mahjong. Any advice on these?

Is there anyway I can lead the installation to an SD card? It installs in root but the partition for root is only total size of 249.5mb and 90.9 free. Im using Diablo 43-7.

I ran the installer after fussing with cloning to my SD card. It ran cleanly with no visible errors. I rebooted and selected my external card but KDE didn't load.
Did I miss a step?

Thanks a lot for this! I LOVE having Kontact, KOffice, and the other K's on there, but I also like Matchbox's onscreen keyboard better, and the fact that its menu doesn't always think you are dragging something. 
I figured out how to run KDE apps directly on Matchbox. All of the KDE apps are located at "/usr/local/kde/bin/*". To get them to run, you first have to first run "export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin" at the terminal, and then run "/usr/local/kde/bin/kontact" or whatever.
It does have problems, though. For instance, tapping it with your finger does not trigger the onscreen keyboard.
If the window is too big, it will just run over the window boundaries, and pop-ups don't work properly either. Kontact is not usable.
For small, simple applications, though, it works! (Printing and tray icons work too!!) The applications I wanted most, Kword, Juk, Kate, and Konqueror, all work well. Plus, you get the speed benefit of not running an all-out kde desktop.
