i am doing the volume boost trick of making Canola dependent on mplayer and altering the volume settings for mplayer. However, I can't seem to find mplayer's config file.

The posts I read suggest it should be in /home/user, but I don't see anything for mplayer there,even when using ls -a.

Could the files be in a different directory?

I don't know, but I recently noticed the Media Box Media Center seemed to give me significantly louder sound.

If no one knows the answer, perhaps someone could tell me: Is there a search command for xterm? and if so, how can I get it to show hidden files in the results?

Oh, and you could set it to use the experimental GStreamer backend for playing MP3 format. You won't believe how extremely loud the tablet could get.

If the file is not there, just create it. I think it's not there by default, but mplayer will read it once it exists.

Another lightweight option I used with a lot of ear-shattering success was aumix-gtk from the elkins.org repo. It's has a fair share of quirks (like having to increase 'line' to get some extra juice and not working with headphones), but it does give a sizeable boost.

Since I don't know how familiar with linux you are, I'm forced to take a guess, based on your asking about the searching in xterm; please don't be offended if I'm guessing low.

from the /home/user directory, try this statement in xterm:

If you don't know where the /home/user directory is, it's where you end up when you open a new xterm window, so closing your current xterm and opening a new one will put you there easily.

Files under the /home/user directory with conf in their name should show up. The .mplayer directory is "hidden" by that period at the beginning of ".mplayer" and will/ should show up in that search if it's there.

You're looking for the .atabake file? I typed in the full path into emelfm2 and edited the file to change the audio to mplayer. I did this to get a2dp working in canola.

/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf

Try adding:

@ blowfish, he's looking for mplayer's config file, which by default should be /home/user/.mplayer/config, but I maybe the conf file that YoDude's suggesting might be ok if the one in .mplayer doesn't exist for whatever reason.
